Search through local LBS or even extend your search area and you might be able to score a great deal. Found the Scott 970 pictured here for only $750, MSRP was $1050. Brand new, was never bought during 2019. It litterally needed to be dusted off. Thinking no one wanted to pay over $1000 for it since it was a 2x10 rather than the new 1x11's or 12's. Nice bike though and to me a great deal.

I already bought this, it was the last large they had. Now if you need a medium size, the LBS still has a couple of these in Greencastle PA:

https://www.reboundac.com/

I'm doubting the new ones will go down below $1000 just because of demand on these. But, I could be wrong.

LOL they retail for $999 plus tax.

Most places locally will do at least 7% off or 10%

The way things are these days I don't see the demand that much people don't want to part with their money not knowing the future of the economy

Heh, if the LBS actually has a 2020 and are willing to give 7 to 10% off, then that would be a good deal.

If you like the black and green color, fit is good and you are ok with the price. Go for it, it's a good deal!

I have to say I love this bike and haven't seen a better deal anywhere, slightly over $1k at $1099. Check out the specs. The Fox fork and 3"+ tires roll great and ride like a Cadillac.
Since I bought it I am wearing my body out because I want to ride all the time. Sale

People should understand that mountain biking and cheap don't go in the same sentence. Pick any hobby...fishing, golf, shooting guns, skiing, playing guitar, scuba diving, baseball...the good equipment isn't cheap if you want quality equipment that lasts.
these are very true words, unfortunately for me....as I am doing this exact thing now, trying to upgrade a crappy cheaper mtb. I always go by the buy once cry once motto but went cheap on a mountain bike....my mistake

Sure they do. But not anyone that is serious about cycling. Mostly purchased for little kids that will outgrow them or the person that casually rides.

It is my opinion you cannot walk in to a LBS today and walk out with a BAD bike as long as it's a good shop. You can get a bad FITTING bike. The sub-$1K MTBs around today have so much cool stuff and updated geometry! Bicycling magazine just did a write up on a neat Trek for like $800 - most of the savings was in the componentry which you can swap out over time.

I recently purchased a (large) 2020 Scott Scale 970 from LBS. Replaced pedals, (yellow) grips and added bottle cage. Components and features made it a good value, for me and the use I will get out of it. Very happy so far, Be safe. Enjoy your rides.

I purchased the "yellow" version of the Scale. Did not care for the yellow grips and replaced them with Botrager black grips, a bit more sticky and "black" matched my style better. I predicted the yellow grips would get grimy looking pretty quickly. I also replaced the pedals with Botrager ELite flat pedal, thye appear more durable, with Replaceable steel traction pins. Now shopping for a bike computer, and will likely land on a Wahoo Bolt. Hope you enjoy your Scale. Stay safe. bill

I'm this close to pulling the trigger on a Salsa Timberjack (or a Rangefinder). Local shop has a couple 2019s that I don't think I can pass up.

For a G, I'm having a hard time talking myself out of it. Any of you folks here have one? How's it goin? Seems to be the right combo at the price point (including a dropper)....

Salsa gets some airtime from yrs. trly. because I own one, but the TJ is not that special unless you think you need the Alternators. Otherwise a lot of other bikes, like Trek Roscoe and Stache just for one example, fill the same niches

Fair 'nuf. Was trying to stay away from the STCG -- Spesh, as much as I like them, are under-specced for the price. Never thought that much of C'dale, Trek and Giant seem just shy of the mark -- i.e. if the Roscoe had a 29er then yeah let's talk. The Stache is out of budget. The Giant Fathom seems close, but again, the Salsa ticks all the boxes at the G mark: boost/boost qr, 120mm fork, trail geometry, dropper post, decent 1x drivetrain, and it's not STCG

Thing is, I haven't test-ridden a modern mtb (1995 Stumpy anyone? Loved that bike. Just a hair small in a 20" though). I'm also right at the L/XL size -- and the whole corona thing makes it hard to just pop on down to the shop and test ride. So I'm killing myself staring at specs and geo charts. ugh.

That's fine. If you want to look at something other than Salsa you can look at Kona or Jamis

that's a tough one as most Salsa's I've ridden including the TJ as been spot on for me on size. I'm a normalish medium. For me the top tube, reach and stack heights for hardtails are my gauges for fit without sitting on the bike. But I've been on many bikes so can figure that out. 1995 was a long time ago, I had a M2 Stumpy Pro in large which was a tad big on me, medium would have been about right if it helps. good luck deciding
