111 solo miles in 12mph to 20+mph winds. Left house at 9:34pm Friday and bicycled around until 11:50pm when SpaceX proceeded with the Falcon launch. Clear sky yielded an awesome visual of the launch and then ignition of returning 1st stage landing burn even being 90 miles from Canaveral then back to biking. Had a mostly solo 152 miler on Wednesday.

72 miles of mostly hills yesterday with some friends on a local audax. As the weather here is still hit and miss, I was on my winter bike. Pros: 46/30 chainrings paired with an 11-34 cassette. Cons: it's heavy, and I haven't really finetuned the fit for anything over 50 miles. But, I finally made it up King Alfred's Tower, which is a local-ish hill that kicks up to about 25% near the top. Lots of people off and walking as wheels were just losing grip and contact with the road. And a couple of interesting situations involving cars-- they were being oddly patient, but it's a fairly narrow road and they were coming from both directions. There was a bit of reversing up the hill and parking in hedges. But, it was a nice day, for once, and great company.

Did my weekly ride to the coast and back. Great day , cool with some awesome clouds and blue sky. I rode the ItalVega , I love it because I think it is completely settled in after a year of riding and little tweaks here and there. With the patina of the past and polished alloy bits to a mirror it is visually balanced as well.

With rain yesterday and threatening today I rode the old beater mountain bike 44 miles and 2000 ft of climbing. Never got rained on but chilly and very little sun.

24, 21 and 30 mile rides over the weekend. I'd planned to do at least one ride of 50 miles or more to start getting myself mentally prepped for some century rides this year, but darned allergies made it hard to breathe or see. My eyes were so blurry from constant watering it was nerve wracking. Common complaint in this area the past year, seems worse than usual.

Had an upper respiratory infection for several days. Bit of cough, runny nose, pretty bad sinus pain. Whatever. No huge deal. No fever or trouble breathing. Definitely not a COVID-19 situation.
But had to take a few days off, mostly because of the sinus pain/heaeache and overall feeling crappy. So, headed out yesterday, feeling quite a bit better. Was going to do a nice, easy 50 or so. Thought I was a lot better. No stress. Slow and easy. Got 4 miles in at a stoplight and was totally, completely out of breath. Just huffing. Ridiculous. Just wiped out. Could not be-lieve how tired I was.
Anyway, slowed down some more and converted my 50 into a flat 29 and somehow made it home all right. Definitely, probably should have just turned around and come home after the 4. Obviously , stil sick. Anyhow, good lesson for me. I'm not 26 anymore. Need to listen to my body better...

I was supposed to race down in NorCal on Saturday, but the weather forecast was calling for snow. I saw pics from the race and was super happy I didn't go. Went for steamrolly flat power on Zwift instead and felt like crap, so I guess it's good that I didn't race. I'll take a few days off and start re-basing this coming week with the added daylight (if the weather cooperates).

Weekend
52 total w/ 1400 of climbing (not much). Totally gassed (guess that’s what happens when you’ve ridden like 300 total miles from 2017-2020)
