Thin tights that are not compression tights?
I have several pairs of tights from 15+ years ago that I find very useful for cycling, XC skiing and hiking . I use them as outer layers as well base layers for cycling, and base layers for XC skiing and hiking. They are stretchy (form fitting but not tight), and do not have a fly, so they work as an outer layer.
As I have been looking around for some new pairs, I am having a very hard time finding this. Everything is either too thick (winter cycling tights), too tight ("compression" tights seem to be all the rage) or made specifically as a base layer, and therefore have a fly (which makes them not ideal as an outer layer.
I just want a basic pair of thin, non-compression, fly-less tights.
Any suggestions?

Well, I’m not sure exactly what type of tights you want. The Aerotech non insulated tights are form fitting, but stretch and are exactly what I’ve used as tights for 30 years, having used Pearl Izumi, Nashbar, Performance and Hind. I guess you might consider them as compression, but not sure who makes tights that are not compression but still form fitting. Never seen that. I do have a pair of cross country ski pants made by Bill Koch (he was a U.S. Olympian skier), these are loose but form fitting, but also heavier than the plain lightweight Aerotech tights I use. I’ve never seen anything like these currently.

They aren't "tights", so don't know if they might be what you are looking for, but how about track warmup pants? Generally they aren't real loose and some are available with zippered ankles.

I just use basic running tights like you'd find at Big 5/Dick's/Sports Authority. I wear them over bibs when it gets into the 30s.

Thank you for sharing the site. Lots of options at fair prices. Bummer that all Medium long sleeve jerseys are sold out. Too many skinny cyclists. Maybe I’ll check back after Xmas after they have put on a few lbs.

I have Under Armor tights I wear in the 45 - 60 f range.
I guess if tights feel like "compression" to me, that just means they're too small and I'd try a larger size.

I have a bunch of pairs of Under Armour HeatGear Armour 2.0 leggings that I wear for workouts and riding under shorts (for sun coverage mostly). Non-compression, very comfortable, cool enough in the SoCal summer and they're gusseted but without a fly.

Define "thin".
I've been riding in baleaf "running" tights over summer or shoulder-season kit.
They do a have a little tendency to pull down in back but that's usually an issue when on the ground, not when riding, and it's a question of fit not decency - I don't hesitate to wear them on a post ride beer run, but hey, you do your town.
And they're cheap

For wearing under jeans for casual rides or commutes, women's $5 tights from Walgreens or CVS work fine.
To wear over cycling shorts or bibs, I'll get new discontinued thermal tights intended for joggers from Under Armour, Nike, whatever, from clothing discounters like Ross or Marshall's. Some of them fit snugly enough, including around the ankles, that they're fine for cycling -- no problems with loose material flapping around.
