26 miles pre-dawn, cool and clear. First time outdoors on the road bike in a month, although I've used it on the trainer. Mostly riding the hybrid with more upright bars lately to give the injured shoulder a rest. Seems to be helping. Ached a bit toward the end of the 26 mile ride but not too bad overall. Took it a little easier than usual. Felt like a very relaxed ride but my actual times weren't too far off my harder efforts. I guess the time spent on the indoor trainer and hybrid have at least maintained my conditioning.

Took the bike for my usual 50 mile loup. First ride since I changed from my 16 year old full Ultegra to a full 11 speed 105 R7000. Everything about the drive train is different. I kept checking what gear combination I was in. I ride this lop so often I usually know what gear I want to be in everywhere on the ride. Now I'll have to relearn everything.

I finally got around to checking out our regional shuttle system and the person I spoke with said the buses have bike racks on the front. A+++ I live outside the transit coverage area so I'll have to ride a bit first. Yesterday I did that ride just to check it out, 4AM start to avoid traffic just to see what the route is like. It would be sporting during rush hour but very doable at other times. This expands my range considerably, and the greenway network is now reachable without a car. Just getting to the bus and back is about my average ride so I'll have to step it up if I plan to bus to a place to ride.

That'll probably end up being my last summer ride for this year. Fall arrived yesterday, and today I'll be adding a shell and gloves. Can't wait.

It's the same around here. The harvesters are working northward and the gins are running non-stop. There are white scraps along the roads and the smell is strong. (Nothing else in the world smells like that. It smells like .. futonery.)

25 miles early Friday, pretty much the same route as above. Felt slower but was actually a little faster. Wanted to get in another outdoor ride on the road bike before the rain hits again all weekend.

33 miles. Had two days rest from riding thanks to the rain from Michael. The two days made a big difference, felt like I had a younger ,stronger guy's legs under me.

Saturday -- probably the nicest day we've had in a long time!! The temp got to 21C in sunshine and the wind wasn't too bad.

Rowan and I rode to the end of the Cycleway and back ... for the second time.

Distance: 27.00 km
Elevation: 160 m
Moving Time: 1:25:24
Elapsed Time: 1:27:02
Speed: Avg: 19.0 km/h | Max: 30.6 km/h

And then Rowan went for a bit of a walk and I went for a short, fast run ... my second fasted kilometre.

Distance: 1.10 km
Elevation: 7 m
Moving Time: 6:45
Elapsed Time: 6:51
Pace: 6:07/km

A hilly club ride starting in Columbus IN and going over into Brown County. Lots of back roads - most in OK shape. 41 miles.

Second ride since I put on new R7000 kit. Got a very late start, it was cold when I left, then after an hour it warmed for two hours then the sun started dropping behind the mountains and the temperatures dropped quickly with it. About an hour and a half out there is a large hemp farm, about 10 acres or so, right next to the road, For the last few weeks the plants have been budding and for about a minute it smells like you put your face into a 1 lb. bag of the real stuff. A few miles further down the road I see 5-6 cars stacked up driving about 8 MPH in a 45MPH zone it's not a busy road so they must have been stacking up for half a mile or more. I could see there was something in front of the lead car. Just as the last car decides he's had enough an starts passing everyone on the shoulder I get close enough and see it's two very big pitbulls, a male leading his mate. I've chased plenty of dogs, snakes and cattle off the road before, but this guy was big and had a look in his eye looked like he'd reverted to his wild wolf heritage, gone native, he owned that road. I yelled at them and waved my arm, but increased my speed and left everyone safe in their cars to deal with it. A great ride, but I'm not ready for this cold weather. It's going to be much colder for a few months before it starts to warm up again. Why did I ever leave California? 50 miles

25 miles hill repeats. A little cold but not bad I need the experience of different temperatures. Got to try out my long sleeves and knickers. Picked up a cotter pin in the rear tyre so had the experience of changing out a tube on the road. Learned stuff.

11 miles Sunday before yet another t-storm blew through, just an easy ride to test some wheel adjustments. Very pleasant before the 20 mph gusts kicked in.

I'm a day late, but I did 19 miles yesterday morning on the old '74 Motobecane now that I've solved the creaky bottom bracket issue. I started in the very dark, pre-dawn hours with low clouds and no moon. IT WAS DARK. On top of that, my taillight batteries died right about the time the light was coming up. You can see how faint the flashing light is in these shots taken on a break about 15 miles in. It was nice to ride with no breeze at all and 60 degree temps.

Out the door at 12:07AM this morning for a HOT 81°F and HUMID felt like 100% first 90 mile segment on my hybrid converted '83 Paramount. Back home totally soaked for a shower, kit and bike change to the Roubaix, a bite to eat and back out. Happy to be on the nicer riding bike since this old body was really hurting even though it's been only 12 days since the last ride. Managed another 47 miles to complete a 137 miler. A long double my age + 1 extra mile ride.

Came down with a nasty cough the day after my last ride. Between that and Hurricane Michael, I didn’t ride last week. Did a 65 mile charity ride on Sunday, with my buddy and a 40 mile solo ride today.

Woke up very early, couldn't get back to sleep. Decided I wasn't going for a ride,. But it was a beautiful clear day, so I went for it. Still getting used to my new setup. It as very warm for about an hour then started cooling off very fast. I was cold when I got home. My usual 50 mile ride.

Just a quick spin around the neighborhood before I have to get back to my school bus for the afternoon routes....

7.75 miles in 30:50 for an avg speed of 15.1 mph.... Not too bad, considering I haven't ridden in a few weeks (I was on vacation in San Diego seeing my new baby granddaughter (i.e. see my thread in the "Foo" off topic forum).

It's been a while since my last bike ride, because of inclimate weather and general laziness.
However, I finally got out today on a nice 60F Fall day, and got in 93 minutes.

Rode yesterday morning out into the farmlands, an hour and a half. Cold with low clouds and spitting rain but it never really opened up, just a few hard drops here and there.

A couple rides to the library, a quick trip which is always fun because it feels like a cat(apult) shot, coming down off the mountain and shooting across the valley on the outbound leg. The return is a lot slower, turning uphill work into potential energy for the next trip out.

Been out of town for almost a week:
- Friday, 2.5 mile ride from my house to the Enterprise car rental where I picked up a Ford Exporer and threw my bike in the back
- Saturday, 19 mile road ride with the missus in the gorgeous rolling farmlands near Lewisburg PA
- Sunday, 54 mile dirt ride with the missus, the "Half" segment of the unPAved Susquehanna race...which btw is a gorgeous route, but a pathetically poorly serviced event.
- Monday, 2.5 mile ride back home after returning the Ford to the Enterprise lot
- Tuesday, 35 mile road ride with the missus
- Wednesday, 27 mile solo road ride
- Today...are ya kidding me?!?! Rest & recovery.

Not today but rode to work Tuesday and Wednesday. Barely above freezing Tuesday morn. Not Summer anymore, is it? 18 and 19 miles.

Overdressed when I went out, started shedding clothes right away. At an hour and forty minutes out I made my first stop to rest a little and eat half an energy bar. Took off everything but my shorts and shoes and basked in the sun for a while, it was over 75°. Put my jersey back on no gloves, and continued. An hour later I put the gloves back on, it was getting cooler very fast. Stopped to tighten the left shifter and put warmer gloves on. At my final stop the sun had set behind the mountains and I put everything else I had, vest, arm warmers over my long sleeved jersey, tights even my little beany. Was still a little cold when I made it home. I had to use my light to find my way home. 51 miles. Broke 4000 miles for the year. But I counted the days left and there is no way I'll match the 6000 miles I did last year. Maybe I'm getting old.

10 miles early Saturday morning, a test ride after a few bike modifications. Good to be back on the road after days of pouring rain and using the indoor trainer. If the weather clears up this weekend I'm looking forward to more riding.
