hi guys

i'm getting my canyon ultimate cf sl delivered to me soon!

it's got 105 groupset on it and i'm going to swap force 22 on to it.

the thing is, most LBS in my country that i trust only carry BB30 cranks for the force 22.

i was told that they don't order the GXP crankset as you can use the BB30 cranks with a press fit BB86 (which is what the canyon frame is) adaptor from rotor (component Rotor 4130)

my question is whether this rotor 4130 BB is compatible with a force 22 BB30 crankset? or is it only usable with rotor's own cranks

i've read somewhere that a BB30 crank WILL NOT work with a BB86 frame because of the spindle length.

i'm very inexperienced when it comes to bike components and the BB standards are so damn confusing!

As I understand it, the BB30 crank has a short spindle. The BB86 designation of the bike BB shell means it is wide and requires a long spindle. I would say this is the one "direction" you can't go to adapt one system to the other. You can increase the width of a BB shell but not increase the length of the crank spindle.

As Robert proposed, a BB30 crank will not fit in a BB86 frame. You need a standard Shimano spindle length or GXP Sram crank.

The Force 22 BB30 crankset has a longer spindle, similar to Rotor 3D+/F, FSA 386EVO, Campy Comp Ultra/One... cranksets that aren't native BB30. With that said, it'll bolt right on using a Rotor 4130 bb onto a bb86 shell. You'll end up removing the NDS adjustment ring , spacer and substitute it with 1-3 1mm washers+ wave washer.

I'm waiting for my new frameset to arrive and it's also bb86. I plan on using FSA's bb86 to 386EVO bb so I can use my Comp Ultra.

Good catch primo...thanks. Based upon what you wrote, looks like both GXP and the 30mm longer spindle Force 22 crank will mount to BB86.

Actually, Sram already has a GXP bb86 bb, no step down adapter needed on the NDS.

I could be wrong but I believe there are two variations of bb86.
One where the bearings are installed in the cups already, similar to pf30 and are pressed in. The other is similar to Trek's bb90 application where the bearings themselves(no delrin or alloy cups) are pressed directly into the bb shell.

argh you lost me at the "NDS adjustment ring spacers washers etc."! so i assume this is a very basic thing that any LBS should be able to do?

yeah i actually bought the GXP BB but there's just no GXP Force cranks in stock anywhere

so i guess i'll go ahead with the rotor 4130 + force 22 bb30 crank combo

this is fool proof and should have no compatibility issues (squeeking etc.) right?

NDS stands for non drive side. Adjustment ring simply takes up lateral play and dials in a hint of lateral pre load. You can remove the NDS adjustable spacer and introduce another spacer(s) + wave washer. Can do it either way as Primo has shown us with his Campy OT set up. Primo knows his stuff.

As to the no squeaks thing. No squeaks whenever press fit BB's are involved is all about the knowledge and attention to detail of the installer. Tech manuals for mating parts should all be read to understand press level, tolerances and adhesives involved. Unfortunately, many that do typical integrated BB installs...many far from typical with the plethora of different BB's out there...don't do adhere to this standard.

Hi, i saw your reply about this and i found it very helpful. Are you saying all SRAM BB30 crank is short and cant fit into BB86 frame? I have tried to install QUARQ Power meter but found out the spindle was a bit short. I was thinking if i can get another crank and spindle to work with the power meter. Any thoughts?

Hi, did you manage to get this to work? I'm looking for an answer to myself. I have Canyon Endurance. I bought QUARQ power meter and found out the spindle is a bit short. I"m thinking of buying another crank with a longer spindle like the Force 22 you have mentioned. I measured the spindle length for the QUARQ was about 106mm. I couldn't find the info on length for the force 22. TIA

106mm is more than enough for 86mm BB shell, the minimal spindle length for 86mm shell is 104mm. Make sure you remove all spacers even the preload ring if you have to, you can preload with a wave washer instead

I had a Quarq DZero Carbon PM on my Storck and the bb shell is BB86.

From what I remember, Quarq PMs with a 30mm spindle diameter that’ll fit BB86 and must be 386evo compatible such as Red DZero, DFour and DFour91.

I don’t understand. My bike manufacturer recommended to use Sram dub bb86 bracket. I use no washer at all. The spindle insert from the non drive side. I could not tighten the quarq spider on the drive side cause it’s too tight and won’t able to spin.

which quarq did you buy? dub is 28.99mm not 30mm that everyone is talking about here

I have quarq dfour. I think someone here has recommended getting a longer spindle like rotor 3D crank arm which has 115mm spindle length.

i dont know if it helps but the new force 22 cranks seem to be the similar length to the old gxp , GXP is old , GXP does fit a bb30 shell with the adapter , but BB30 is not gxp , GXP is 24to22mm diameter

i can literly shake a tree and sram gxp cranks will fall out you dont have to use force , just about all the sram road gxp cranks can be used reds ,apex , rival , really all the same at the end of the day , but i do prefer the carbons stiffness !!

Remove the Sram DUB bb and go with either Rotor's 4130 bb, Wheels Mfg bb86 to 30mm bb, Hope PF41... just to name a few. From what I've seen online, the Sram DUB bb is actually wider (likely 2mm) after the actual lip of the bb cups.
