If hills are trouble, check your easiest gear...back in the day 39/23 was the climbing gear...today 34/28, or even 34/32 is more common...not saying you will be able to easily find a larger cassette that fits, but ita something to be aware of, as its one reason vintage bikes aren't so good for climbing.

So hills are bit tough. It's made me alot stronger so I can keep up with pretty fit riders up my local climb and at places like Nichols and Mandeville canyon. Although my cadence is way lower than everyone around me usually. The only time I was really feeling it and wishing for some granny gears was riding up Las Flores is Malibu which is like 20% for 7 miles.
Is there a limit for the rear derailleurs ability to shift a large cassette?
