Appreciate and accommodate family & friends.
Rotate the rides
Play no favorites
Ride safely - straight lines not sine waves.
Fewer pics, fewer posts more miles w/ smiles.
Upgrades over N+1 (with exceptions, of course)
Hike more in Aug &Sep
Ski this winter.
Life is good, if you live it full.
edit: Birthday is recently past, goals should be slept on before undertaken.

Same as the past three years -- ride my age. That's a reasonable goal.
And if not that, just ride my bike.

For example,
What is: Appreciate and accommodate family & friends? How can you tell when you've accomplished it? What are the key criteria you need to meet to say, "Yes, I've done that."

It's a lot easier to ride your age in kilometers. Let's all go metric.

I think it’s do-able if I ride my emotional age. But what would I do the rest of the day?

Or I should have used a word other than goal.
Over 40 years ago Intel used Management by Objective. Everything had to be set with the boss, detailed and quantifiably measureable. I outgrew it for my life.

Does anyone set goals on Birthday instead of New Years.
New Year day is just another no big deal, no goal or resolution day.
Birthday has been a goal day for a number of years riding double age+ in miles. 7/10 just rode 169 miles only 13 days after unexpected prostate cancer surgery. Tons of lightning and rain interrupted the ride resulting in my cancelling the remaining 8 hours of ride time.

- get back on my bike (check)
- get to Copenhagen (check)

Yea, I wake up after the birthday party and vow never to drink again. lol
Seriously, I generally don't do goals. All the do is set me up for disappointment. And if I'm inclined to do them, I make it ONE goal. That's hard enough for me.
I think I'm gonna do something kinda fun soon ... celebrate a metric century of life. Yea, baby.

New Year's Day is such a random date. And which New Year's Day on what calendar...Jewish, Muslim, Chinese, Hindu etc,? Birthdays? It's just a date that puts you roughly on the same segment of the Earth's circuit around the sun as the day you were born...again, depending on which calendar...some calendars "drift".
On the other hand, being human, we tend to attach significance to dates, places, people, words, ideas...well, just about anything.
I think any day is a good day to set a goal or goals. But if the choice is only between one's birthday and New Year's Day, I would vote for one's birthday, since it is more personal.
All that being said, for what it's worth, I have ridden my age in miles on or near my last two (January) birthdays.

I make it a point to ride my age on the weekend closest to my birthday. That, and there's a nice metric century in the city where my son goes to college so I do that. It's about 3 weeks after my birthday so the timing is good. It's a proverbial 2 birds thing. Visit my son, get in a really nice ride. Makes for worth while weekend for sure.

Mine falls 4 days earlier. Cycling wasn't too bad when I lived in Manitoba and Alberta, but definitely better here in Australia. In fact, they're nice enough to have a long weekend on or around my birthday each year ... just for me. Well, OK, they call it Labour Day, but I've renamed it.

My birthday is in January, so setting annual goals on New Year's Day is pretty much the same as on my birthday. I use ridewithgps to track my riding, and it tells me, among other things, how many miles I've gone in the calendar year, and my birthdate isn't an option. New Year's Day is also roughly the boundary of riding seasons, so it works well for me.
Unfortunately, the weather has never permitted me to ride my age on my birthday. Even if it did, the daylight hours would not. Maybe I should do it on my half birthday.

I have road my age on my birthday but this year I did not. I road 28 miles after I ran 3.5 miles and then I walked the dog 3.4. None of it was a goal and that was yesterday total of 35. I probably should have just road the 57 miles but I want to go to Mass between the run and bike. I never do New Year's resolutions that is just a losing cause most of time I think for most folks. I think just getting to the next birthday and being healthy to ride and run a bit is the only goal.

Well, I make yearly goals around my birthday. So usually after my birthday in September, I start planning for the next summer's activies. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. Either way, I try to spend time with my Family and Friends in a way that I will remember as FUN! I usually try to do at least one thing new each year. My 50th year didn't fair so well with some health related issues, but the next was a big one with riding the Hilly Hundred, the Death March, Running 3 miles at Niagra Falls, and Hiking nearly 40 miles in the Rocky Mountains. This year I started out with the Death March ride in the Hoosier National Forrest, then was training to do a Centrury ride and injured my back, so taking the summer off for rehab. I hope to get some riding in this fall. Century ride is already on the books for next year!

I lay around on my birthday, don't do anything, go out to dinner. Yay! I have athletic goals, somewhat flexible, usually one A goal and a few B goals. Gives me something to work toward and a way to measure progress or the reverse. I've been riding over twice my age at least once a year. Our tandem team has ridden over its age, though only once, back in '15. So far, so good.
