Does "moving forward really really slowly" count? I can't do a proper track stand to save my life but I don't usually have to put my foot down at lights.

what about having to switch your bars from left to right when trying to keep them steady?
i don't just hold them one way, especially at red lights.

I don't trackstand all that much anymore.Usually i slow way down when i'm coming up on a red, read the traffic and most of the time i'll find a gap to run it.If i have to stop i'll trackstand unless i'm really tired and carry a ton of stuff.

This. Usually I'll come up to a light slow enough that I've still got momentum going for when it changes to green if I can't just pop through.

I picked the last option. If it looks like I'll have to wait more than 10 seconds, the foot is going down. Its 2009, no one is impressed by long trackstands anymore.

There couldn't be just a plain old "no" for an answer?
I can't trackstand, but I don't feel any need to be snarky about it.

I trackstand usually at lights. I guess it doesn't wear my right cleat (I step down with my right foot usually) as much by doing this.

I do left foot forward, don't really care about which way the bars face. Since I'm in the USA, I typically do it with the bars to the left, so as to steer into the crown of the road. Easier that way.

I've been working on my ass-in-the-saddle trackstands, just to keep things interesting.

I was doing it no-handed, though, and it was much easier than I thought it would be for the most part.
I held it too long, became careless, and the bike fell over underneath me, though.

I can trackstand with either foot forward, with the bars in either direction, without hands if I need to pull out a super-hipster move (only right foot forward for this one)...I'm a total dork. I do prefer to do right foot forward.

I prefer right foot forward heavily, too, especially when my hand/hands aren't on the bars - but if I'm using my hands I can trackstand in all direcitons, just I very rarely go left/left due to my own comfort.
I usually try for the roll to the green game, but there's often enough those times where I hit the light for the full cycle (har HAR) so I trackstand for those usually.
I trackstand most of the time whenever waiting, but don't feel any obligation to do/not do them. Just whenever I feel like it.
