Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's what I tell my wife. I can get there but everyone around me is going to pay.

Anyone here ever been in to RC cars?

I downloaded a free simulator and this is way harder than flying RC airplanes IRL.

My wife and I went through a few days of vague COVID symptoms a few weeks ago and antibody tests were offered in my area this morning so my wife and I got tested. We were both negative for antibodies. I was almost hoping that we had had it because it looks like it's going to be sometime yet before we can get vaccinated.

Maybe I should have been more specific in asking about radio control cars, not just remote control

Although modern slot cars use wireless transmitters, so they fall into that category too.

I should get a picture of my dad's slot car track once he gets it set up. It's way more fun than I ever thought it would be.

My dad raced slot cars, when I was a kid. There was a big (to me anyway) track at a shop in town where the racers would meet up. He took me with him from time-to-time. He was in his 20s at the time.

This would have been early 60s. There were a lot of tracks back then but like a lot of stuff, it sort of died out.

I had an RC car from Radio Shack at some point in the 90s.

(not my actual car)

When I started learning about bike maintenance I learned about a guy around these parts who would ride it until it didn't function anymore.. then just replace all of it.. 20,000 miles was not unusual..

We had our own slot cars, as kids. IIRC, it was a Tyco TCR Racing set. Cars and track.

When I was a kid, I saw an episode of Punky Brewster that got me in to RC for a while. I fantasised about building my own, but never had the budget to go beyond pre-built from a department store.

It's a sleepy little village, but here's a Wizard of Oz festival in the summer.

I spent 20 mins trying to get the tape started. Wife is sitting on the couch watching me struggling. She comes over and wraps both bars in 20 mins.

Apologies to those on a calorie count, but I've been liking a Sicilian/Detroit-style pizza recipe that I find on YouTube. Made it for the first time a few days ago, but had enough sauce, cheese and pepperoni left over for another, so I made some more dough today. Mmmmm.

I just don't have the oven to make "normal" pizza to my satisfaction, but this turns out really well in a regular oven at 450⁰

damn, the cost of ownership is high on these new rigs. Might have to take up another less expensive hobby like sailing.
