Bikes: "Hildy", a Novara Randonee touring bike; a 16-speed Bike Friday Tikit; and a Specialized Stumpjumper frame-based built-up MTB, now serving as the kid-carrier, grocery-getter.

NJ Transit - can bikes board trains at low-level platforms?
Is there still a restriction in place disallowing bikes from boarding at low-level platforms? Or has this "rule" been removed, as I've heard?

This restriction has been removed; riders remain responsible for carrying bikes up and down train stairs at low-level platforms.

^ Great to hear! Has NJ transit documented this anywhere, or is it another "invisible" policy change?

The last time I brought my bike, the conductor said their might be problems because he said the rules were still not written in stone so to speak. Regardless, he let my bike in the train. They have gotten strict on holidays so be careful.
Please note the weekend changes! You are not allowed to bring your bicycle to New York City until after 12:00 noon! Then, you're not allowed to take your bike out of the city until after 8:00 pm!!

One pedal stroke forward, one pedal stroke back. Thats about the most inconvenient policy I've ever heard.

Just to clarify, no bikes on trains arriving New York between 9a and 12n; nor on trains leaving New York between 5p and 8p. The rationale is that weekends see rush-hour-type crowds during these periods. Also, the policy doesn't only apply to New York travel, but these trains' entire runs.

I took my bike on the train yesterday and thought I was breaking the rule, since my station has a ground-level platform. I'm glad to see the news here!
