A little off topic but I just thought this was just too funny!

I ordered some hubs online from a site in England (Ribble) after having great service from another site (ProBikeKit) buying tires. When I order from PBK, the tires are dropped off on our doorstep so I know when they arrive. Usually 10 working days (free shipping). Gina usually checks the mail so most times any type of letter arrives for me, she'll hand it to me. No mail for me for a while but I'm waiting for my package to show up going on 15 work day so I'm hoping all is good with my order, maybe the holidays. Ordered Dec 14th, still waiting on Jan 4th.

BTW, I did order the parts in her name as I let her handle the money, atm cards, check book etc. (We don't do credit cards ) So now I am starting to wonder, it's Saturday, mail man comes, Gina gets the mail and no package. "So no mail or package for me?", I ask her. She says ."no.. but somebody must have sent me a registered letter, we weren't home so the mail man left a card so I have to go to the post office to pick it up". I wondered who would send her a registered letter so I asked the name of the sender. She answers, " I think it's that realty lady that worked for my Dad cause she has a strange name". A strange name? "Yeah, strange name, it's something strange, looks like ROYAL, yeah that's her name ROYAL" she says.

It doesn't click so I go on wondering when my hubs will arrive from ENGLAND. .........She says she'll pick up the registered letter on Monday after work, cool. So now I am worried about my order so I email Ribble to verify my order since another poster ordered on Dec 22nd and recieved his order Jan 3rd. I ordered on Dec 14th, the hubs said "in stock" when I ordered, the other customer is local but receives his parts already. I'm nice in my email, just wanting to verify they sent my order. They say be cool, deliveries to US can take up to 20 working days, call back later if it doesn't arrive within that time frame. No problem!

So Gina plans to pick up her registered letter after work but gets a phone call. Now she needs to go take care of some family business so she skips on the post office. The letter can't be anything that important so she'll get it tomorrow. But still I wonder where my parts are, just strange that they haven't arrived yet. I have to be patient but still I'm thinking.

So Gina and I go out to eat dinner last night. I ask if she still has the card for her registered letter. She says yup, in her purse. "So this lady with a strange name, what exactly is her strange name?" I ask. She pulls out the card reads it and says" it's a wierd name, says something like the sender's name is ROYAL, strange name, ROYAL MAIL". .........

Well at east I know my hubs have arrived but I thought it this was funny. Reminds me of Young Frankenstein when Igor was asked to get a brain from the lab. He takes one thinking it's somebody named Abby....Abby Normal, Sheesh!

I just ordered another set of GP4000S from PBK last night - they have a discount code (pbk10) for 10% off and I think DOLLAR10 gets you $10 off but I forgot about that one when I placed my order.

I used my first spare last month after the flatstravaganze, so these will go right on the shelf for future use. I think it was $68.09 all in for both tires. I have trouble finding them in 25mm width anywhere else (ribble only ever seems to have 23mm, not that 2mm probably makes a hill of beanz worth of difference)

No, it was riding the self-flatting Michelin Pro3 Service Course... a terrific tire for comfort and grip but lousy in the gritty streets of LA. I think I average about 1000 miles on those puppies (rear). The front is still going strong at 2500 but obviously I'm um, stressing the rear more.

Hey, technical question - I just ordered a replacement front rim to replace the one I dinged up front on my easton fancy weight weenie wheels... is there any reason I can't reuse the spokes or is that a bad idea? They're all holding tension & appear to be in perfect working order. I'm going to build up a set of deep V's for clomping around on the river trails but I think I"ll keep the weight weenie wheels for mountain duty.

That's what I do when I wear out the brake track on a rim. Tape the replacement rim alongside the current one and move the spokes over one at a time. That way the spokes stay in exactly the same position in the hub where they've already created an indentation. (Of course this only works when getting a new rim with the same ERD - sounds like you're ordering the same rim model as the one that was dinged.)

Took PBK almost a month to get me the Garmin 500 I bought for my wife for Christmas. Ordered on Dec. 7th, got it Jan. 2nd. My wife got a picture of it in her Christmas card.

Phew good to hear.

I can't believe I waited this long to get a replacement rim, I damaged the thing back in May and an identical replacement was only $65 or so.

Yup, I've read plenty of guys using the spokes a asecond time. I figure for $25, I'd rather use all new parts to ensure a good build. But again, many others have no problems. My thought is after 20,000 miles on the spokes, they've gotten their use.

Well, keep in mind my wheel only has about 4k miles on it; I'm not replacing the rim because the rim wore out, i'm replacing the rim because I whanged it on some big honking obstacle on GMR.

Where do you get your spokes around here? Mail order?

Maybre in the next two or three days if I get to it. It's not a wheel that I need, just bought the stuff in case I need it. Bought the stuff cause it was cheap. I do plan to build the rear wheel. The front I don't have any plans yet so I'll save the hub for future use, if it ever comes up.


Yup, I remembered that. I was speaking more about my wheels. In your case I'm not sure but knowing me, I'd still go with new spokes. Not that anything is wrong with yours, I'm just that way. I'd keep the old ones for spares.

I got the spokes at my buddy's shop. Some things don't make sense to order on line at certain times. Deep V is $62 on line but $89 after shipping. Buddy sold me a V for $75'ish. Spokes were about the same as online prices so I just got them there.

Now if I see a Deep V online for $62 free shipping, then I'll order online. But that is hit and miss online.

Built the rear wheel. Front hub will sit and wait for a "need for service".

In pic 2, you can see that I like to lace my wheels with the trailing spokes on the inside of the hub flanger for extra support. In the past I've paid pros to build wheels and a couple of them didn't do this. I asked why they hadn't done it, they didn't know a thing about it. As a clyde and destroyer of many wheels, I want it done.
