So, what's with this?

I ordered some replacement gum rubber hoods and black cloth tape for Geraldine. The gum rubber hoods fit quite nicely. I taped the right bar, over one layer of existing tape, and I didn't use any on the brake-lever band. Had quite a bit of surplus left; a surprise. The left brake-lever band needed some tape, so I used some of the surplus from the right side for the left. I then proceeded to tape up the left side, ran out of tape about 2.5" from the end of the first layer...

I took the tape off, rolling it back on the spool as it been originally. I compared the diameter of the rerolled tape to the unused rolls. It was a wee bit smaller. I used one of the unused (and slightly larger in dia) rolls to redo the left side and, voila, perfecto mundo, with a bit of surplus as before.

The vendor's comment, "I guess they let acouple of rolls go a bit longer."

Needless to say I'll think twice about ordering from them in the future.

Those are nice hoods. Might I ask where you got them?

Sounds like they should offer to send a replacement set for the short ones.

Yes, one might think that, but it appears one would be wrong. I guess when three out of four rolls "are a bit longer", it's not considered to be an issue, after all they "had seen a roll or two be longer then others over the years."

Fair warning.

I may not be understanding this but if they gave me one long side and one short side and it had to be cobbled together, I would let them know and ask for replacement.

I would think the sizes are not cut by hand nowadays and should be equal and sufficient. And would think they would offer to replace if you took the time to call as it must be an issue.

Tape is cheap so not a huge ordeal, but yea maybe that would not be a place I would frequent.
