I am new to bike building and this is my first build, so I bought a wheel set from ebay and and they are mavic 700c in size when I wanted to put them on the frame the rear one did fit just fine but the front one was too big to fit on the front and the fork did not reach to fit the wheel
any advice on what might be wrong here ? I would appreciate any help

I guess it's possible you have an 80s funny bike, with a smaller front wheel required. I think you'd know that already though if you had one.

Is it something like lawyer tabs holding the hub away? Or you got the wrong standard (through axle or boost or whatever).

Are the brakes stopping it from going on?

Are you simply putting it on wrong?

Post a picture and I bet you'll have an answer very soon.

I'm guessing OP already has the tire mounted, and the tire is too large.

So far the frame is naked with no breaks and just the tires, the front ones are touching the inner surface of the front fork so the axle is being hold back by this

OP sent me a private message stating that he/she found the bike on the street and doesn't know much about building bikes. Only detail is that the wheel is 700c.

Glad to hear the frame is not broken.
Does it look as if the rear rim is located so that a rear brake will work with the new wheel?

So the tires are too big, not the wheels. You can change to slimmer and narrower tires.

Not the case here, but some low end frames like my ‘80s Schwinn Sprint, came with forks with an axle spacing of about 90mm rather than the normal 100mm spacing.

How is this possible ? As a quick overview, the rim is the outside metal hoop, the hub is the metal thingy in the middle, and the spokes of the long thin things between the hub and the rim. The wheel equals all of the above. The tire is the rubber thingy that goes on the outside of the rim.

Exactly. It’s like those people selling a bike on Offerup and they say “needs a back rim”, and in the picture the whole wheel is missing.

Any chance it is a Terry bike? Some of their bikes ran a 24" (ISO 540 or 600A) in the front and a 700c in the rear.

Can you measure the distance from the center of the hub axle to the center of the brake mounting bolt for both the fork and the frame? They should be pretty close to the same. If they're more than a centimeter or so different, you may be dealing with a special-purpose frame (time trial bike or Terry-type bike) that used different wheel diameters front and rear. Or perhaps even a replacement fork not intended for that frame.

Sorry for late reply I was only allowed to post again after 24 hours so I am going to try and make this post as efficient as I can.
frame measurements :
Front break mount until axle mount is 34cm
Rear break mount until axle mount is 36cm
Seat mount until pedals mount (don't know what this called yet) is 56cm
Seat mount until handlebar mount is 56cm
The rims are have are 700c.
On the tires there are two measurements written the first is 23-622 and then ( 700x 23c).
I tried to mount the rims without the tires and they did mount but it is very clear that there is no space for the breaks on the fronts because the space between the inner surface of the fork is very small and won't fit even a thin tire
I was just googling Terry bikes and they seams very similar to mine with smaller wheel size in front but I also read that they are mostly for women and I don't know why :/

Looks like you got yourself a rare Lopro bike!


At a glance I am guessing it will take a 650c front wheel.
By the way- you should post on the Classic and Vintage forum. Lots of Lopro fans there and knowledgeable people who can help you ID your bike, etc.

that frame uses a 650b fromt wheel size most likely.

So the story behind this frame is that I found it near a pile of old furniture not so far away where I live in Berlin and I decided to rescue it and build it with a theme and name in mind and its going to be called Banana Sole which means banana sun the frame looks in good condition and I am really looking forward to building and getting into bike building it and I hope its going to be worth the effort

more likely a 650C.

700C= 622mm rim
650B= 584mm rim, common on some modern mtb and gravel bikes and old rando bikes
650C= 571mm rim, common on time trial bikes and very small road bikes for short riders.

for small frames, it was common to use a smaller wheel in the front to prevent the rider from clipping toes on the front tire and for frame clearance.

You need to ask yourself if you want to get into this type of project and if you want to ride that style of bike. That bike did one thing well, a time trial and even that is debatable. The finished product would like like this image that I borrowed from the internet. Desirable for some, not so for most. You might be better off selling the frame and starting fresh. Good find though.

Personally I have always liked the aesthetic but never enough to try one.
