Riding on Holidays?
Christmas dinner got moved to the in laws house so no dinner prep needed, kids are away, So I might ride tomorrow for the first time in my adult life.
Which begs two questions;
Do you ride on holidays
and
If you do, which one is your favorite riding day?
My favorite? Thanksgiving. Usually not too cold and traffic is spread out throughout the day.

We'll see what betides thru this day (the kids n grandkids arrived here in the wee hours) but for several years I've ridden on 12/26, "Boxing day" in the English tradition. The weather here is usually fine for riding and the traffic is nil. I also rarely see any other bikes out in the wild that day either.
Looks like nice weather again tomorrow and the visitors are going road trip so Boxing Day ride it is. Bundle up.......

Just got back from a short, early morning ride through the neighborhood (7 miles). Lots of lights made it one of the better holiday rides for me.

Not riding this year, but I often ride on Thanksgiving and Christmas, In my rural area, there's actually a bit more traffic than on your average weekend. I suspect it's younger families who live in the city driving out to the grandparent's house in the country for the holiday.

New Year's Day for me, always in an attempt to jump start the routine for the coming year. Knowing the inevitable outcome, I always try to ride each bike on that day.

It's 9 miles up to the end of the island. So, 18 miles from here & back. When the weather's nice, I try and do it about four times a week.

Our club did a 40-mile Christmas ride this morning. I think there was less traffic than I've ever seen before in the area. We also have Thanksgiving Day rides, and there's reduced traffic then too, but not nearly as much as today. One drawback is that we usually have a coffee shop stop and they were almost all closed today.

I ordinarily never have time to ride on Xmas Day either. But the kids are teens now, there's a big gap between breakfast and dinner, I got out for 28.5 miles this afternoon, which was very nice. Rained through the night, and was clear and sunny by the time I got on the bike. I wish I had had more time, I would have put in more miles.

I really wanted to ride on the 25th, it was sunny, little traffic, winds calm and got up to 52 degrees. Perfect. But my oaks, huge trees, had dumped all their leaves over the last week and the neighbors were probably about to come after me with pitchforks. So... 26 40Gal bags worth, heavy with damp leaves - it wasn't the exercise I'd have preferred. Lawn looks good tho.

Christmas day has always been reserved to spend the whole day with the family, for which I'm grateful. Pretty sure I've bicycled before on Boxing Day, but this year finds us with a cold rainy almost freezing day, and me with a head cold, so, I'm not going to be out there this year.

Christmas is for Family time and eating the stuff I avoid the rest of the year. Boxing Day, today, I am out for a good tear around town. I am grateful to be on the bike and enjoying the coffee stop. I also am back to work knocking off the weight I have gained from lack of riding and good empty sweets. My gosh, up to 128 lbs this morning!

Been unseasonably warm here, and almost no snow. Finally a dusting of snow on Christmas Eve, so at least a blanket of white over all the brown. And it melted off the roads almost right away, so we did a quick 10-miler, and picked up an abandoned old Trek 800 and Instep trailer hulk, for the parts.

I usually ride about 20 miles on the local rail trail on Christmas day. Then I eat myself into a coma again.

I will occasionally ride Christmas Day, but not a regular riding day for me. Rode on Xmas eve and today this year. New Year's Day is my favorite holiday ride. The past few years for me it's been a ride up the local Thunder Ridge climb unless it's iced over. Always a chilly at the top no matter the weather. I've recently moved, so this year it will have to be something different.

Superbowl Sunday, not an official holiday, but still the best day for riding if the local team is playing and the roads are clean of salt. It's a little dangerous just before kickoff, that's when everyone is rushing to get more beer and chips and guacamole. And of course after the game is dangerous with the drunks.

New Year Day is a very popular time on the local mountain. This guy has been running up every Jan 1 since 1976!

I plan to get out tomorrow for New Year's day ride. I would go today to end the year but the 40 mph wind gusts and the intermittent rain has convinced me that is a bad idea.
