GPS and FitBit and Strava

I used to use the Endomondo app as my go-to GPS tracker for my rides. Endomondo has been phased out so I have decided to finally start using Strava. I am using the free version of Strava. The interface seems nice and the first 3 rides I did worked fine at capturing good distance data and an accurate map.

But yesterday when I got back home from a 3 hour ride and went to hit the "stop" button on Strava the distance reads out at "zero". Apparently I never successfully linked up to GPS. I also have GPS on my Fitbit Charge 3. This version of the Charge is said to have on board GPS. When I record a ride I do leave the Fitbit app launched and open on my phone. Occasionally my iPhone 8's battery will get quite low by the time I return home from a 3 hour ride, presumably because using GPS continually like that drains the battery.

But on yesterday's ride I did not have any miles from GPs for fitbit either.

Could somebody advise me on how to better establish good GPS links that don't fall out? Thanks.

The Fitbit Charge 3 doesn't have GPS it uses GPS from your phone over Bluetooth. It sounds like it's one problem for Strava and Fitbit. Was the phone where it couldn't get a good GPS signal?. You could also check settings in the phone and make sure that the apps have permission to use GPS or location services.

Turns out I have the Charge 4 which I believe has onboard GPS.

Are there any particular weather conditions that might hinder GPS signal transmission.
