I wish one of those sears bikes would pop up where I live. I hate shipping bikes to me because shipping is alot and not everyone wants to ship to canada. that Firestone super cruiser was damn heavy lol

Correct, that's not the original saddle. The bike probably came with a Brooks, either a black mattress saddle or a leather one. But there's nothing wrong with the one you have, unless you hate it.

I love the gold! You aren't seriously thinking of painting that, are you?

No, I dont think I'll mess with it much at all. I kinda dig the original patina, and the seat does not bother me a bit. The grips are a gold 'flake that have faded out, although I found a set on ebay NOS from a 70's bike shop.

I ran out of grease in my elbow cleaning it, when I get some more built up might try and polish some more on it then take some better outside pictures.

That is a great color, very cool. I have a saddle with the same tag, it's not a bad seat at all.

Gary, you must learn to take pics from the drive side, ok? Just a friendly warning.
The gold is a must-keep, and a matching rear carrier, that's rare on a Sports, more like what came on a Superbe.
To date the bike, find the code on the Sturmey Archer hub, stamped on the shell under the name, you'll see AW, then below, 67 10 for the year and month.

Well I did a good deed for a fellow bike dude and Gave him a replacement good quality vintage mountain bike for a winter beater because the one I sold him last year for some reason looked like acid was eating it. the wheel fell off from forks with chunks of the fork and dropout stuck on it still. it's a mystery. the rims where bad too. so I gave him a like new early 80's bike.

Did I mention I loved that bike and it was my winter bike. now it's gone and I have nothing.
It's garbage night and god must of seen that good deed and gave me this! well whoever threw it out did. lol

Looks like a neat bike and once winterized it will be good.

Just a piece of junk but it's alright!

Just picked up this '87 Trek Elance 400 T from a craigslist ad for $90. All original (other than the frankenbars brake levels and saddle; stem and seat post are original). Even the original toeclips are there. The 531 frame and components look really good, the paintjob is excellent (tires and tubes are shot, but rims are nice and true). Not exactly a garbage dump find, but still paid much less than what those frames alone go on the 'bay. Another winter project to add to the list.

Here are a couple of quick awful iphone shots:

Wow, nice turn-arounds. I see old bikes like that red one all the time but I pass on them because I never knew what to do with them. I won't make that mistake again

I picked up some NOS white Bluemels at the lbs today for twenty bucks. Not the catch of a lifetime, but I am excited. They look great on my white Raleigh Gran Sport.

I spent $20 on this. It doesn't have a headbadge, but once I got it home under some light, I am pretty sure it's a Columbia! I've always wanted one, as there are some family ties to the company twice removed, or something like that....

I think it's a 1949 Columbia Sports Tourist based on internet picture search and the chart on oldroads. The serial number is M428439. The "Sports Tourist" script is still visible. The leather Messinger seat cover kind of shrunk, but it's all still there. The rear hub is typical American New Departure. Everything moves, which is surprising. I believe it has the original tires still on it, Goodyear, and the tubes hold air. I bought it from a somewhat famous artist, unknown to me before today. She got it from another (more) famous artist in Woodstock some years ago with her ex.

Matt,

They have any more of those fenders?? A set of those would fit right in on a project I'm just about finished with.

Over the past couple of weeks I've picked up a couple of bikes I'm pleased with.
First is a Mid 80's Fuji Espree with quad butted Valite Tubing. It had been upgraded to Suntour indexed barcon shifters and is in decent shape (with a few scratches on the top tube). I traded a smaller Centurion Accordo with stem shifters for this bike.

The 2nd is a Bridgestone 300 Mixte that I paid $20 for after finding it on Craigslist. I've already adjusted it to fit my daughter, and we spent awhile last night getting her used to it. The shiny bits are oxidized and will need to be cleaned up, but its in great shape otherwise. And best of all (for my daughter) it's pink.

A couple of low end pickups today, a 1982 Schwinn LeTour and a 1979 Schwinn LeTour IV mixte. The plus is that both are super clean.
