FS: Complete original rebuilt '77 Schwinn super le tour 12.2 chrome. $300
Hi everyone. This was a bike we've had in the family since new I think but I never saw running. I'm 38. I recently got a hold of it and rebuilt it. I've done a vintage Raleigh before this so this was my second go around but a long time biker (mountain and road) so this wasn't first time putting a crank on or setting up derailleurs. I got a lot of help from the great crew at Schwinn forum too.
So it's a 58 cm ( center bb to seat post) large I believe. Everything is original and era correct. The quill stem is from a 79 continental vs 78 super le tour. The rear derailleur is original. Front derailleur is an '83 Shimano 600. Original crankset, cassette and pedals. Wheels are original wrapped in new tire rim and new kenda tires. New Shimano sealed BB
Both wheel hubs were disassembled , old grease removed, cleaned till shiny and packed with new grease and bearings. The rear wheel could benefit from a true. Stopping power comes from original single pull Shimano dia compe brake levers with salmon Kool stop pads. New brake cables, housing and a slight 2020 upgrade by adding front mount brake pull levers with hoods vs the traditional high loop brake cable with over under brake levers. The cockpit it setup with your choice of an optional Brooks c17 (new) $150 or used Brooks b17 leather saddle in gold shape ($100). As mentioned above quil stem not original but period and correct. Drop bars are original, cleaned and wrapped in black sram tape. Headset was removed (had to saw out old quil stem ,tried it all, heat, soaking, heat and soaking etc) cleaned inside and out and crown and headset were packed with new grease andnew correct size bearings . Power is provided through the original crankset that was cleaned ,derusted and paired with a new Shimano sealed BB. Chain is a new sram 850 or 890 chain. Forget what I purchased. Shifting is from the original friction setup with new cables and housing. Like everything else on this bike, they were disassembled, derusted, cleaned, greased in the correct spots for a friction shifter setup.
The bad:
As mentioned above the rear wheel needs to be trued and to make this bike really nice put some cost effective much nicer wheels like mavic open pros on it.
Both skewers front and rear could be replaced with new ones. I kept it original for now but the rear one I'm particular was super gunked and needed alot of work. Scoured with steel wheel etc. Still doesn't feel quite right but fully operational.
Frame - this is more rare "upgraded" chrome finish. This was a $50 upgrade when the bike debuted. It's in good shape for a 43 year old bike but isn't perfect. There's also a small dent that in the cross bar crank power side u can see in a picture.
Overall there's few to compare but definitely one of the nicer ones available.
$350 obro, cheapo aero saddle or optional upgrade listed in description. Local pickup only SE Ma/cape cod.
Would be willing to meet somewhere within 50 miles radius depending on how much interest there is.

Super Latour 12.2
I personally love the ride of a 12.2.
Can you take a picture of just the dent?
Thank you.
