She spends the entire article classifying people into four groups. Groups 1 & 2 she sneers at. She puts herself in group 3, which she makes sound noble. Group 4 she worships, but says contains only 3 or 4 people. And then she finishes with...
" Fixie Chicks are not rational people. But I salute them, us (although we resent being classified as a group). "
Lame

why is she trying to label herself, just ride to ride...i don't hate on "hipsters" because at least they are on a bike. and i don't understand when a girl rides a fixie how it is any different from a guy...i'm not sexist or anything but shouldn't we be treated equally?

I read the article as entertainment rather than gospel, and I liked it.
Sexist me, I find women who can relate to machines very attractive.
Some years ago we had a stripper in this town who rode a Ducati motorcycle with great style.
A very pretty girl, her choice in motorcycles and her ability to ride impressed me more than her appearance.
And, a woman who rides a fixed gear bike well gets my attention.
Very cool.
=====
An aside: it amazes me that in today's world anyone can still make a living as a bike messenger.

My lady rides fixed. I actually got her into riding fixed, and she can outlast me on a ride more than 15 miles. All those spinning classes she took paid off! No pics of my asian girlfriend, thanks.

Not only as a female who rides fixed but also as a female in general, I find crap like this really embarrassing. The way she divides us "Fixie Chicks" (this alone gives me the idiot shivers) into 4 tidy little subcategories and then proceeds to list the rules and set of necessary characteristics which makes one fall comfortably into one of those predetermined little facets of an already overhyped subculture is both laughable and sad.
"Fixie Chicks are divided into four distinct strata" so whatever you do girls, don't get caught riding your bike without wearing one of the uniforms and acting accordingly!
