Up at 3:30 and out the door around 5:00 am. I like to get a shower and have a cup of tea and a cuddle with the cat before I leave.

2:45 Alarm goes off
3:05 I get up
3:50 Leave for work
4:40 Arrive at work
5:00 start work
1:30 off work leave for 2nd job
2:00 arrive second job
5:00 leave second job

25 miles round trip, almost 14 hrs away from home. Wow that really sucks now that I think about it.

I am up at 6:30 final packing occuring.
out the door on the bike 7:15 really wish i could get out the door by 7 then it would not have to be a mad dash for 11 miles.
at work 8am.
bike locked, showered, and ready for work 8:20 (hopefully, usually works this way, or at least it works best this way)
when i hit the locker room i set a countdown timer for 7 minutes to keep me from taking my time.

I started commuting last week but so far (4 commutes) has been roughly:

Alarm at 5:30. Generally out of bed by 6. I'm NOT a morning person.
Make and eat breakfast, fart around on the computer until 6:30-6:45.
Leave by 7.
Get to work about 7:30 and change.

I mainly started commuting to help with weight. I have a company vehicle so there was not financial incentive (but the boss sure likes it.)

My old schedule:
Out of bed at 7:30
Leave at 7:45 (if I'm lucky)
Get to work at 8 (if I'm lucky)

I'm still adjusting to this but I'm liking it. There's nearly zero traffic at 7am which is nice.

Arrived at starting point for riding at about 6am. Was pedaling by 6:05am.
Arrived at work 6:35. Toweled off, freshened up, changed into work clothes and was making copies for my class by 6:50.

I did it!
Where do you leave your car parked for your half-commute?

Alarm: 6:40
Out of bed: 7
Out of shower: 7:20
Finish breakfast: 7:40
Out the door: 7:45
At work: 7:55
Official start time: 8:00

Note that days I don't bike, I have to be out the door 5 minutes earlier, which I find incredibly difficult to achieve.

Not enough options. Not only are there people who work other shifts, my answer is "meh, whenever. I get to work whenever and leave after 8+ hours, or sometimes I work short then make it up some other day, if I haven't worked long some prior day." Or maybe I'll just work from home.

In the winter I generally get up at 5AM, partially because I'm way busier that time of year and I want to get more time in and still see the family in the evening, and partly so that I can ride in the dark. Once spring DST hits and it's starting to get light by 6AM anyway, and work is letting up, I sleep until 6, unless I sleep until 7 or 8.

a church parking lot. I stopped last week before i started commuting and asked if it was OK. talked to the building manager and he said it was no problem. great thing is all the churches around here are super-duper compound-like mega churches so they have a large welcome center/lobby with a person sitting at the desk all day. i park out at the edge of the lot out of the way, but it's still in sight of the desk for safety.

Yeah sorry I forgot to include an "other" option. oh well.
but I also think your situation is pretty glaring exception. not many folks can go to work whenever they want and stay for however long and then come home whenever. lol

True. In my case it works out because if I was required to be in at a specific time, they'd get 8 hours out of me. When I can come and go whenever, I don't really worry about what time it is and I often wind up working 9 or 10 hours without realizing it if I'm having fun working on something. If I work from home I almost always work WAY more than 8 hours.

since i read this thread i have been 5 -7 minutes faster getting out the door. it has made a great difference on traffic and my commute. I don't have to rush as fast to get showered and to work.

Thanks for the motivation to make it happen.

Happy Riding!

heh funny you should say that, because pretty much the ONLY place around the 1/2 way point that I could park is this one small church that was recently built in the last year or two. Everything else is just residential areas and farm land along all the 2-lane roads. I have thought about stopping in there one day and seeing if I could park my car there. But I also love my car and hate the thought of it being miles away from me all day long.

ha! nice!
Once I found how long it would take me to ride in, it turned out it was about 25 minutes shorter than I originally thought. So, I said to myself oh then I can maybe sleep slightly longer, or not rush to get out the door. But then I said, nah, if I keep leaving earlier the traffic is so much better. plus, sunrise over the misty farmlands. win.

you should stop in, i'm sure they won't mind. church folks usually are pretty nice.
i also am very cautious about my car, but, thankfully i don't think crime is too bad around this area of knoxville.
another reason i decided to do it in a church parking lot instead of the Kroger parking lot 1/4 mile away.

Up at 6:30am if I'm riding directly to work. Showered and working by 8am. I have showers at work. Direct to work = 8 miles. I usually prefer to wake up around 5:45am and take a 20-25 mile route to work for some extra exercise.
