This is my 1992 Trek 950 that I picked up late last year. It came with XT levers/shifters and I think the only thing not original were the grips. One of it's main uses was so I can ride while recovering from a broken clavicle, so I threw on some upright bars (VO Tourist) and rode it. I fell in love with the bike so I started upgrading parts as I acquired them and fixed the plastic cable holder in one of the shifters. Now that I am healed, I replaced the cables / housing, cleaned / greased it up and added a handlebar that fits me better.

I picked up a pair of Ocelot's.
Does anyone have any info about these bikes? I was told Bianchi made them around '93.
They have "Flat-out tires". Look like foam. Does anyone have any experience with these?
My plan right now is to give them a good cleaning and change the seat.
So apparently I can't post pics until I've posted 10 times...

well i fixed this one up and delivered it today, along with this aluminum (peh) Bianchi I found in the trash. sorry I am an idiot and forgot about the forums and did not take pictures of final products. I was too excited to deliver them. - I should ask my friend to send some!
but I managed to get both the hardrock and the bianchi back on the road for less than $20- some cables, a tube, and a rear wheel from Urban ore. ($6 for Araya rim wheel and tire + decent cassette.. love that place). This is why I love old mtb- now a father and son can ride together for a few hours work and $20- and with care and maintenance, it will last a lifetime.
shot of how it started- not so bad now!

Probably worth upgrading if you can do it on the cheap.

In 1983 I asked Tom Ritchey to do a custom Annapurna for me. The original paint is a little battered, because it has been a lot of places. Bottom photos taken in Canada's NorthWest Territories.

Drove from Whitehorse to the NWT border, across the border to the last place you can reach by 4WD, Oldsquaw Lodge. Rode bikes 60 miles further into NWT until we reached a branch of the Ekwi river too wide and deep to cross, then turned around.

Wow That's a beauty! - You inspired me to drag out my 1996 Zaskar LE. I haven't riden a bike in probably 15 years, but I would like to get back into riding again. I am no longer interested in woods riding, just some city, open road, and maybe some gravel roads. I am working on a vintage 1973 Raleigh SC, but that is a work in progress that needs a frame repaint. I think I would like to turn my Zaskar into something useful for my current needs. I want to ditch the suspension seat post, the suspension fork, downhill pedals, and switch to narrower smooth road tires. I have a cromo Tange Big Fork from an old Trek Mtn bike I can use, but I don't know how to determine what length fork legs are needed when switching from a suspension fork to a rigid for a frame designed for suspension. I am seeking suggestions for how I should proceed with my conversion.

I am aware of the Nashbar option, and the Surly 1x1 forks which are also made for conversions. However, The Surly 1x1 sus repalcement forks only come in 413mm, and 453mm axle to crown measurement. The Nashbar is 453 ATC. The 413 is designed to replace a sus. for with 80mm of travel, and the 453 is for 100mm of travel. The original fork spec'd for the GT Zascar was an early Rockshox Judy with only 63mm of travel. So these rigid suspension replacement forks are designed for modern bikes with longer sus travel. My concern is using a fork with longer crown to axle lengths will alter the geometry. Also, all these replacement forks have disc brake hangers which I don't want/need.
I am really just trying figure out how to determine the correct axle to crown length for a replacement fork that originally was spec's for a suspension fork with 63mm of travel.

if 80mm of travel is 413, and 100 is 453, then you have a 20 mm difference in travel making a 30mm difference in axle to crown. Your Judy is 63mm- so a rough estimate (which a few mm here or there should still be fine) would be 28mm less than 413= 385mm axle to crown. So it seems like its in the range of a standard fork at that point.
I just measured a random fork from a Summit mtb in the shop and it came to 388mm

measure from the ground to the bottem headset with the current fork and see how much you measure with a rigid fork. some mm or 1 cm more with a rigid fork would not make so much difference in handeling.
