I am unsure what you might be talking about but I think you are looking for people to say NO and I will gladly say that. The goofy gadgets you come up with are I guess better than wrapping your head in tinfoil to block the secret government rays but I still would rather avoid both.

If you want a power meter, SRM, 4III, Pioneer, Quarq, Stages, Powertap, Garmin and probably some others I haven't mentioned. A crank or pedal based system seems to make the most sense for measurement of your pedaling.

At $269 for the basic kit, it's far and away the cheapest PM I've seen. There's probably a good reason for that.

It's not a power meter. It measures cadence and speed then calculates power, probably not very well.

I have of the first gen releases. I haven't used it for some time. It was interesting, but had quite a few issues including messing up cadence on descents.

It now apparently uploads to Strava, which would allow better data analysis (the Aerofly system was crude).

In theory, if it could collect very accurate real-world data, then it could get a reasonable approximation of power. I.E. Measuring micro accelerations/decelerations during pedal strokes, combined with terrain info, hill info, etc. But, I don't think it was doing so, at least not a year ago.

Perhaps it is time to try to find a new battery and try the thing again.

Isn't this how strava does it as well? Why not just do that route wayyyy cheaper? I don't know much about strava so correct me if I am wrong.

It seems to have a decent set of features for the price. My Sigma GPS computer with cadence, speed, HRM, and elevation sensors was around $200 I think? It's been a while. It's convenient that the speed and cadence sensing is taken care of by one gadget and gets rid of sensor/magnet pairs that, in my experience, tend to move out of alignment occasionally. But I think you're correct that it just uses speed, elevation change and rider/bike weight to estimate power, just like strava.

Just added the "plus" and jacked up the price.

You would be better of with spending your money on these instead: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/c...e#/updates/all
At least they use actual strain gauge.
