I picked this Peugeot up from an estate sale type situation today and am trying to figure out what exactly this is. From looking at Peugeot catalogs it seems to correspond most closely (with the notable exception of derailleurs and brakes) with a 1978 PRN-10e. What throws me is the lack of chrome on the fork legs and rear triangle. Is this a different model/year entirely?

Derailleurs are interesting; black Suntour Cyclones with a bit of homemade drillum on the rear.
Reynolds “Tres tubes” 531 decals, Atax Philippe bars and Atax stem, Weinmann sidepull brakes, Simplex dropouts, no-name headset. Also came with a Peugeot branded frame pump.

That's a good bike, with it's 49D crankset reminds me of my '79 PKN10 but with Reynolds fork legs and Weinmann brakeset.

You're right - nothing in my English catalogs really fits the bill. Other than the lack of chrome and the Reynolds fork decals it does fit the bill for a PR(N)-10 so those differences were what I started looking for in my foreign-language catalogs. The 1977/78/79 PS(N)-10 has painted forks and is a good fit for the frame (and came with a Stronglight 49D crank) so that's where I'd put my money. I suspect that only the crank, stem/bars, and hubs/wheels are original.

Original equipment for the 1978 PS(N)-10 would have been:
Frame - 531 3-tubes

Thanks for your thoughts about the model identification. I can’t find any markings on the pedals, but the toe clips are Christophe’s.



The seatpost is one I don’t recognize; it is stamped 26.4 ( can be seen in a cutout window on the side of the post). It’s marked “brev” on the front and has two initials in script in the rear: GS.

I've had a few of those seatposts over the years and for the longest time didn't know what they were. It wasn't until I picked up an '85-86 Gitane Performance which had one on it and looked in the catalog that I found out they are the San Marco GS Lux. Didn't even know they made seatposts until then. So I guess that's original as well.

Cinco- Thank you for posting that page and photo. I think that you’ve nailed the model and date. The info on the seatpost is perfect; I was starting to research whether it was some sort of Campagnolo GS Model I hadn’t seen before.
