1962 Dunelt 3-speed Valuation Please
I am looking at this old Dunelt 3-speed. What would a good offer be on it? We are way off base on his current asking price, and I think he knows that.
Thanks to everyone for their input.

1962? In that good a condition? I wouldn't let it go for less than $150-$200. It might go for the buyer's price--$300--in a large enough city but I don't think it's worth that much in Louisville.

Not helpful...
Helpful! On a "come and get it" conversation with the owner, I can get it pretty decently at a "Benjamin and a half".... I want to keep it, but just want to make sure I wouldn't lose major skin on it. As I am understanding it, these were built by Raleigh, but on a lower end scale. Sound right?

There is a hierarchy for the various 3 speeds built by Raleigh but I can't tell you if Dunelt was one of the higher end ones or not.
In terms of valuation, 1962 is fairly old and this bike is in good shape. Is it worth $150 to you? If so, just buy it. I would if it were local to me and I wanted it.

Isn't that crazy?! We have a depressed vintage market also. There are a few hipsters that like to take an old bike and turn it into a fixie, but not many takers on vintage bikes for the sake of riding one. I was in Denver recently and they were EVERYWHERE! I was drooling!

DUNELT history.
...the bike in the photos you're looking at is pretty pristine, cosmetically. So the guy selling it is trying to get a premium for that. It's true most Raleigh made 3 speeds, (by 1962, TI owned both the Dunelt brand and the entirety of Raleigh), seem to go begging these days unless you're in an urban area that values them. The 3 speed Dunelt's made and sold in the 60's were slightly cheaper than the Raleigh branded ones, which was how I ended up with one as my childhood rider. That red color for them was iconic.
I've seen larger frames (the 23" ones) in Raleigh Sports, Superbe, and some of their other branded productions, but I've never seen anything in a Dunelt except the 21" frames. I don't know why.
