Bug and tar safe for matte CF frame?

anyone used bug and tar on a cf matte frame? just want to make sure before I cause more problems. I have weird dark spots that look like tar splatter and they won't come off. looking to remove these stains somehow and i'm thinking this will work if it's safe for the frame.

I think it's used on car finish, so it should be fine for a bike finish. But to be sure, you should test in an inconspicuous spot. The only thing is it might leave a sheen since it's oil based. Regardless wash it off with a mild detergent.

awesome thanks. not sure there's any part of the frame I want to test it on, but perhaps one small spot underneath the bottom bracket.

WD-40 also works well to clean tar/road scum from matte carbon fibre finish - just rinse well with soap and water to finish.

I've found acetone works well without damaging my frame. Actually I've been quite impressed with how tough the finish is on my matte black PlanetX bike. You can get finishing products for matte frames now but I find furniture polish seems to do the trick without making it shiny, surprisingly.

i saw this, i suppose its acceptable but wd40 is more anti corrositon that stain remover (WD = water displacement). i ended up getting a mother's tar and bug remover. i'll post what happens if anyone cares.

They all speak “good” English in China.

Just make no references to HK.

See the below. Hard to get a good photo of it. It's not sticky, nor does it seem to have a texture or raised feel. There's a few spots like this on the frame where it looks like the wheel sprayed something on it. I haven't tried goo gone or WD40 yet. I figured a product made for this sort of thing would work better but apparently not.

I don't believe that is tar. Source: Numerous years of cleaning tar off cars.

looks like its a warn area, thru to the carbon. Could've been a thin coat of paint that no cleaner will remedy.

wow unreal. is this typical for carbon frames? a bit disappointing if in fact that's what it is. i've probably put 3000 miles on this frame if that.

It's not something I'd expect from a reputable manufacturer, but there's always a chance that their QA missed the mark on that frame.

is this something we think might be warranty-able based on the age of the frame? I noticed these "smudge" marks probably 4 months after getting it, but haven't really figured out what was going on until now.
