Welp, heard back from Reynolds. They don't mail out spokes. They want to rebuild the wheel. That's all well and cool, but now I've gotta ship the thing and go without for a week or so and, unfortunately, I don't have any spare road tires on hand for the stock wheels.

I was about to mention that having six functioning road bikes in the house might be over the top. I do, however, always have spare wheels and tires. Just this morning I had to do a wheel change. The tire I mounted yesterday has a flat spot. I haven't yet checked into the cause of it.

I've been tempted to buy some spare wheels recently, but the reality is that spare wheels would have only been used so that I could do a quick swap to fatter tires for gravel rides, so I would have been in the same situation, regardless - spinning around on fatties. Oh, not to mention that I justified keeping the Haanjo around as a spare bike so that I could quickly jump on something with fatter tires for gravel rides. I suppose that I could grab some cheap(ish) road tires for the stock wheels just to have them around, but buying crappy wheels at the LBS for more than what it would cost to order some GP4k S II online isn't too appealing.

Here's a real weenie dilemma: I now have two sets of Hed Ardennes + wheels. One pair of GPs, with round spokes, weighing a nominal 1578 g, and a pair of SLs, with bladed spokes and a 5-pawl hub, whose weight is a bit of a mystery, but might be as low as 1435.
Problem is, the SLs are on the Lynskey which has a 15mm front TA and the GPs are on the Cervélo which is 12mm. It would be cool and OCD-relieving to have the SLs on the Cervélo. Someone please tell me it's not worth 150 bucks in parts and tools and setting up the GPs tubeless, at least until November and the end of sailing season. ...Right? ...Right? I really need to caulk that shower instead.

Even if these sat around for 90% of their life, it's not a bad deal at all.

Edit: it looks like the GP have swappable caps but the SL might need an axle kit for the front - $65 bucks with bearings and sleeve. If you want to have the better wheels on the new bike anyway, definitely worth it. Then you don't have to set the GPs up tubeless (I wouldn't set spares up tubeless - they'll sit too long and the sealant will dry up and whatnot).

This thread was a great source of entertainment back in the day, thanks largely but not solely to that guy. He’s a natural wit, a rare breed.

Do the two wheelsets have the same hubs? Most HED have swappable end caps for 12/15/QR. If you can't swap the caps between the two sets, you might be able to get HED to ship out another set for you.
