Amazing cyclist in Johannesburg

This video came out about a year ago, but I just found it this morning. One post said the guy is a bike commuter, but either way, this riding is insane to me. Crazy traffic and on a track bike with no brake.

His highly developed sense of situational awareness is incredible to me. I wouldn't want to drive those streets, let alone cycle them at the speed he apparently attains. Oh, and he must go through a rear tire like once a week....

Jburg is quite cool. I wouldn't mind living/working there but the science infrastructure is poop and my career would go down the pooper. Good diversity and tons of fun!

Wow, riding brakeless is one thing; taking your feet off the pedals going downhill in traffic is a whole 'nother level of crazy. I realize he can brake by jamming his foot between the tire and seat stays, but I would imagine that's even less effective than a skid stop. Dude has skillz. I rode essentially brakeless for a couple of years (I had a front brake that I never used), but I could never skid as effortlessly as he makes it look. Looks like he's running a pretty high gear ratio too.

Thanks for sharing.

How's the saying go...?

"There are old riders and there are bold riders but there are no old, bold riders."

Reminds me of Joeybike's stuff from not so long ago.

It would be interesting to see more on-bike footage. I wonder how much of that intense riding can be done at a time. For this video, they could have simply done a bunch of short riding sessions and pieced it all together. But an on-bike camera that showed like 3 miles of continuous riding would be interesting too.
