That all sounds good to me! The Beatles, what a phenomenal effect they had on society the world over. Really something, I wonder, could that even happen today?

Thanks for the links.

proper music for us folks

About a year ago I started this thread on the Fifty Plus Forum since it seems I hadn’t heard of many songs recommended by subscribers on other Forums:

Cycling Playlist Exchange

My intention was to have subscribers, particularly from the Fifty Plus Forum put their playlists on their Private Profiles (My Profile) to show off as suggestions for good cycling tunes. Mine are mainly Big Band and Golden Oldies (see My Profile), divided between before and after 1950; the latter group almost all before 1980. Now that’s proper.

You know...good music didn't end in the '60's (I know that's sacrilege to some who grew up then).

Check out Jack White in the White Stripes or the Raconteurs. The guy can flat out play.

Wasn't just a west coast thing. Our musical tastes are very similar, and I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia, PA. I can't believe how young Jorma and Grace looked in that Smothers' Brothers clip! I saw Jorma last January sharing a bill with David Bromberg; what a great show!

Oh yeah...as long as we're being honest:

This is one of my favorite radio shows. They play a nice mix of blues/rockabilly/doowop. The old playlist on the site is obviously a more blues oriented show.

Here is something I came across today. A classic Lowell George era Little Feat tune played by Gov't Mule with Sonny Landreth sitting in playing slide guitar along with Warren Haynes. Something good to keep in mind.

A quote from youtube on the Joplin-Piece of My Heart page.

Why can't we have real music like this nowadays? I envy our parents for actually having good artists to listen to when they were young.

That's funny. My 19 year old son loves the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix and the Doors, but he just doesn't understand Janis Joplin. Here's one of my favorite clips:

And how about when Fleetwood Mac was still a ROCK band, not some smarmy pop outfit:

Here's a few of my favorites.

The Black Keys are out of Akron, OH and are a fabulous band.

Radiohead, musician's musicians.

If I am ever stranded on a desert island I hope I've got Steely Dan for company.

Another great band, Roxy Music: the essence of cool, barely contained passion.

And of course the hardest working geriatrics in show business, Ladies and Gentlemen The Rolling Stones

Yes. The original Blues-Rock version of the band when Peter Green and John McVie left John Mayall's Bluesbreakers to join Mick Fleetwood to form the band was the best for me. Isn't it funny how so many bands reach their greatest commercial success when they abandon what really makes them good?

Outstanding!

Here's a neighbor you may know, Chuck Leavell. This guy's had a fabulous career starting at a tender age with Dr. John and moving on to the Allman Bros. while still a teenager. Played for years with the Stones and has played with Government Mule.

You left out Sea Level, Eric Clapton, The Black Crows and many others. I've seen him play many times, most recently a couple of years ago, reuniting with Randal Bramblett for sort of a Sea Level reunion. Somewhere I have a picture of him standing with me in front of Ribby from when I met him after he sang the Star Spangled Banner at the start of a stage in the first Tour de Georgia in Macon.
I have always enjoyed his piano playing more than his singing.

Bingo!

Every summer we take a group of boy scouts out of the oppressive South Florida heat and flatlands and go to one boy scout camp or another in the mountains. This year we went to Camp Powhatan near Roanoke,VA. We also went rafting on the New River in West Virginia. I ride in the cargo van with my buddy Ed, and I always put together a different playlist. Hi Garilia,

I perused your extensive playlist and I found we have one song in common, Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs, though I have Jambalaya by the Carpenters rather than Hank Williams; I liked their version better.

hehe, Jim if you like Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs, you need to listen to his song "Loan Me a Dime" Duane Allman plays an incredible guitar on that song.

Very nice and interesting playlist. Definitely won't let you nod off.

However, I did almost suffer musical whiplash at "Tighten Up"

Saw them play in 1970 at the National Guard Armory in Augusta, GA.

Mr. Brown and I had a conversation while standing in line for fried chicken at the Wife-Saver in that town.

Otis Redding died way too young.

I'm kinda surprised I don't see any Neil Young, The National or Nine Inch Nails...

OK. Here's my theory/prognosis. A few years ago, I was in the lobby of the assisted living facility wherein my mother-in-law resided. The background music was Big Band. It is my theory that our "background music" when we are living in such places will be the Beatles, AC/DC, Stones, etc., because that's what we grew up with. My wife thinks I'm crazy (insert your own joke here).

Recently, I was walking into our fitness center, here at our 55+ enclave. In the parking lot, I saw a person with a walker and one pulling an oxygen bottle. I was a bit depressed. BUT, once inside, they were playing "Light My Fire" (the long version) over the system. I felt better.

I have aboaut 9700 songs on my iPod. Over half are blues, but there is everything from Big Band, pre-rock 50s pop, classic rock, disco, etc. I download new stuff (for free) from Amazon and iTunes everyweek.

+ a bazillion! That entire album was fantastic, but that song is chock full of goose bumps.

I have very eclectic musical taste and prefer any music with a solid bass line rockand percussion for training to. Led Zeppelin is still my favorite. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQmmM_qwG4k&ob=av2n

For listening and playing along with, I am a big fan of Jesse Cook. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-dUbcYIZio
