July Goals, milestones, and Achievements Thread 100 mile or more club

I know it is a few days early but now is a good time to start talking about our goals. Hopefully by now you have formulated a goal or several for next month. If not now might be a good time to reflect on this month and think about what you will do next month.

July for me is going to be somewhat different in that I might go down in mileage. My main summer goal is a one day STP (Seattle to Portland) with some friends at a pace averaging better than 17 mph. Success is looking likely in that due to serious weight loss and lots of base and training miles. Having others to share the work also helps. FWIW last year I did a one day at 16.3 mph average with my teenage son, me leading more than he. This year I started using MFP and my riding has turned into not just because I love it but also to lose 2 pounds a week my target before exercise calorie goal is so low that if I want to enjoy meals (dinner mainly) I just about have to exercise daily. That has led me to by the end of June over 800 miles. Well the week before STP I will change my goal to either only lose a half pound or none at all. This will do two things. First I'll be well rested after a huge month, a week off more or less will not hurt. secondly I should be able to enjoy reasonable meals and not gain weight. I'll likely just do short rides with my 8 yo son that week, maybe a speed workout like Violator on Tuesday before. Then the day after STP will probably be a rest day. After that I am considering changing it up to actually training for CX season. Not sure what that will do for my miles, hours on the bike will likely go down due to increases in intensity.

Bottom line is I'm going for 600 miles in July.

How about you? Goals, ambitions, plans?

I am still working up to longer rides so I will aim for 150 miles in July.

I had higher goals for riding on a week vacation last month but only got 3 rides in because I somehow developed a fever for 4 days to finish out the week. Wanted to roam around to various trails I haven't been on and that didn't pan out. At least I did get my number 1 goal of riding on in the city of Pittsburgh. That was a real treat for this old country boy.

Got a good bit more 20+ mile rides in than I expected. Will probably hold the riding back to 12 to 18 miles after work this month but hopefully more often (too much horrific thunderstorms last month.) So I'll leave the goal at 150.

Weight wise nothing is happening this year. Last year I started trying to lose weight at 247 and saw a low of 218. Winter and Christmas saw it head back up to about 224 and I've brought it back to 218 but have been stagnant there seems forever. The accountability is a problem. I was using MFP but my cheap $100 Android prepaid phone just can't handle it. When it became nearly a half hour process of entering at lunchtime and again at dinner I had to give up. It really is helpful tracking the calories. I got a buddy at work on it also and he's been losing crazy weight. He bugs me all the time about MFP but I just can't run the app.

So I'd like to start seeing the 8-10 lb loss per month again. I'll have to see where I am tomorrow morning as weekend mornings is when I was taking my official weight. Right now I'm 219.6 as I just stepped on the scale. 210 at the end of July would be fantastic.

Maybe you could write down EVERYTHING you eat in a note book. Just having it writing can help keep you accountable.

My goal for July is to do a century ride. I used to do them all the time when I was younger
but haven't done one since I've been in recovery.

I'm still working on JUNE :-).

MTD 305.8.....entered June at 279.6, will leave it at 264.0 (-15.6). Expanded my base to 20-25 miles.
I will do an easy smooth 30 minutes or so tmw to finish the month out.

July goals
Metric century
400+ miles
Log MFP every day
Meet the goal every day
Exercise at least 20 minutes per day
Base ?? Hmm tough one...lets aim for 25-30 :-).

I haven't been logging my rides in the monthly log posts but I'll shoot for some goals here. I logged 66 miles on the bike in June, with my longest ride being 18.56 yesterday. I also logged some miles on foot and the elliptical so my mileage may be a bit lower than others that ride exclusively. Right now, I'm on a schedule of one day biking one day walking (or elliptical at the gym) one day off.

I have 2 hills I'd like to conquer, actually the same hill but different sides of it, so I might make those a goal. I'd also like to hit 20-25 miles on a ride. I have a vacation coming up this month (and WILL have my bike), I'll get 3-4 "flat" rides in on the road paralleling the beach, might venture off the island and onto the mainland to stretch out the rides. I'm also possibly having vision correction surgery, possibly the week after vacation. Per the preliminary info, no exercise for a week after, I may have to push that to 2 weeks due to perspiration concerns.

Between diet changes and exercise (most developments recent), I've lost 8 lbs in the last 3 months, almost down to 250. Hoping to make a bigger "gain" in that department.

I haven't done this in a while. I got so discouraged with the weather and things. I have moved to a better area with a better climate.

I am going to throw in for 150 miles this month.

I'm in for this month. I'm training for a century in August so my goal is to get long rides at least three of the four weekends in July. I'm not sure of a total mileage goal for the month since I use my indoor trainer a lot even in the summer.

Gonna shoot for 400 miles again this month ... didn't make it in June.

Also going to buckle down on food logging and get a little more disciplined with that. I'd like to see 265 on the scale by the end of July.

Also want to commute a full week at least one week this month and do a ride or two with my local club. Been trying to hook up with them the past month and haven't been able to.

Some quality training miles on the bike and running. Some rib injuries have prevented me from running since mid June
Do well in the TT at the end of the month

500 bike and 50 running

I will make 400 miles in July. Period. No exceptions.

Ooooh, while typing this got an email from UPS. My reward for failure shipped, now I have extra motivation. "Message from November Bicycles: Your November Bicycles order is on its way. If you've got any rest days scheduled, get them in now. You'll want to do some extra miles really soon."

Hopefully the other bits and pieces from Ribble show up about the same time... They should...

I'm shooting for 400 hundred miles. I've been hovering around 300-350 the last couple of months. I have a new wheelset ordered that might take me off the bike for a few days. My bike shop is sometimes slow.

7/01 = 12 km

I said I was going to stop commuting, but not today I guess lol
And I'll have to invest in a home trainer this year, I don't want to spend the whole winter not being able to get some saddle time, so I'm not sure exactly when I'll get it yet, but I 'll get it as soon as I can.

July goals - 250 miles. Represents an increase of almost 100 miles from my June total, but I think I can do it! No weekend plans and the miles keep adding up! Did 7 this morning to start the month off, will do 8 tomorrow, off on Thursday, 31 mile charity ride on Friday to get me off to a good start!

Storms and working overtime last week kept me under last month's Goal of 90. So going for 90 again this month. Rode early this morning.

7/1 - 7.2 mi

MTD: 7.2 mi
Goal: 90 mi

Missed June's goal of over 500 mi. Can blame it on business travel. Three trips to Mexico. One of these days I'll take the bike down, but the skinny tire road bike will not do, and more route scouting is necessary.

500 miles/July
1 ride in July over 6k ft climbing (new PR)

350 road miles and 150 rail trail miles.
My weight is stuck at 215 lbs for 3 or 4 months. I hope to lose 5-10 lbs in July.
I have a list of 13 hills that have stopped me at least once in the last 5 years. I have climbed the 4 easy ones and 3 of the harder ones. This month I want to climb the 3 hills that have already beat me this year, one of them beat me twice.
What is MFP? Jay

MFP = My Fitness Pal ... many of us use it to track calories in and calories spent (though MFP on its own estimates on the high side).

I use Training Peaks and have been backsliding on tracking. Adding 100% tracking to July goals.

After the train-wreck that turned out to be June (300 mile goal, 71 miles ridden), I'm reluctant to set any goal for July, but I'm going to go ahead and give it a try.

Going to shoot for 250 miles.
