I use it all the time, and by that I mean, many times a month. It honestly doesn't harm the paint. Of course if you left it on for a long time it could do some damage, but for a momentary wiping, not at all. Isopropyl alcohol though is the safest bet, though if there is a lot of oil or grease on it, I will up the game and use lacquer thinner. They do have to be used carefully though. I generally don't hesitate to use lacquer thinner sparingly, but never use acetone on any painted surface.

Rubbing alcohol
I just rescued a Trek 700 Multitrack for $30 at a garage sale that was beyond filthy. Missing tires, tubes and seatpost. I used rubbing alcohol, clayed it, then used some Simoniz ceramic coating. The end result is much better than when I rescued it.

Go for it. You obviously have vast experience with it. On the other hand, you are very much wrong. Acetone easily removes paint. I have some in my garage and have used it recently to do just that. Oh, and i painted my first car over 40 years ago. If you wish to use acetone to wipe down a frame before applying a decal, or sticker, go for it. I personally do not recommend it. I also do not know why I felt compelled to click to view your post, as I have you on ignore due to the amount of misinformation you tend to spew under the guise of, "knowledge."
