Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Best "RED" tires.

Hi guys,

Saw some FORTEs and other RED colored tires at Performance however based on the reviews a lot of them suffer from easy puncture (not sure if it's just coincidental).

Am curious if anybody has had any "good" experiences w/ RED colored/striped tires.

I'm mainly in training mode right now interested in speed but can always use traction for durability--I definitely don't want to consistently replace my tires if I can help it

I'd stay away from the Specialized Mondo S-works. The red looks good, but I've punctured 2 of them with less than 200 miles on each.
Michelin Pro Race 2's have always been good to me

I see the pro3 race on the Performance website--I went to Michelin's homepage and realized that the 3's have replaced the 2s and look like they're better all around, anybody w/ any experience?

I've been riding these "TUBULAR CLINCHER" TUFOs for three years now and love 'em. I just wish they were not so expensive.

You didn't state whether you wanted Clinchers or real tires, but Vittoria Corsa/Open Corsa CXs are available in red.

Conti GP 4000's.

No flats in 8000 miles on my last 2 pair. I get the red ones too for my Cervelo R3. Just ordered my 3rd pair from PBK (great price).

The obvious choice is the Michelin Krylion Carbon in Red.

The trouble is none are available, and may not be for many months.

I am going to get a PR3, which will probably wear out by the time the Krylion's are again in stock.

Rubino pros. I did 3K miles on my first set without any flats, though I will admit to having two flats in that same time on my current set.

I'm happy with my red Michelin Pro2 Race, about 2,500 miles and 2 flats (both in the same ride oddly enough) about 1,000 miles ago. In all fairness though they will be replaced with Pro3 Race when PBK gets some in stock.

I have the pro race 3's in red on my bike (see pic) and I love them. feel a bit "spongy" in the corners but hold a tight line and have not failed me. The are also puncture resistan (so far) even after I was forced to ride over a bunch of broken glass while on the highway today. The old specialized mondo pro's would have just given up and shredded themselves with abuse like that.

As soon as I get my 09 Tarmac Pro frame set in I will be running EA90's with the pr3's (in red) on it as well. I picked my PR3's up on eBay cheap, but just got another set from pro bike kit for about the same price as eBay.

Pic of my 07 allez elite with pr3's and ultegra/ dura ace components and mavic wheelsets

If you want a cheaper tire, consider the Michelin Lithion, PBK has these for around $20 a tire shipped, hard to beat at that price.

I'm on my second set of Hutchinson Fusion and have really liked them. For what I do - general cruising/training (no racing) I've had no issues. The first set had a yellow stripe and these have the red one. I ride on a lot of roads with chip seal coatings and they have held up well.
