Campagnolo Hubs

What was the last year Campy produced individual hubs / freehubs? I am assuming that all current Campy offerings are wheel sets only.

Not exactly the question you asked, but campy started producing casette/freehubs around 1991-1992 when whey shifted to 8-speed and using 130mm axel spacing. I imagine some of the less expensive grouppos might have offered 7-speed freewheels for awhile afterwards, but 8-speed pretty much immediatly caught on for the higher end groups and there was probably no incentive to continue producing "obsolete" threaded hubs.

edit- looks like I misunderstood your question, thought you were looking for a vintage style freewheel hub.

Yep, you can still get Campagnolo hubs to build your own wheels. Personally I'm mad that they stopped making them in the fantastic polished finish they did for so many years.

Thanks everyone, I am still looking into building a new road bike with 11speed Athena. I would like to build up my own wheels with some nice shiny Campy hubs. Why in the world do they not sell those any longer?? Am I that out of touch?

I had a helluva time finding silver Campy Record hubs last year for a wheelset I was building. Lickton's in Chicago finally tracked a NIB pair down for me.... for $500, which I reluctantly paid. They said they thought I got the last silver 36h 10-speed hubs in the U.S. The sad part is, I still haven't gotten around to building the wheels.

There are a couple Centaur/Daytona level sets on eBay, and you can get silver Mirage really inexpensively at Crosslake Sales.

I've found it is usually cheaper to buy a wheelset than a bare hub.

+1

I picked up a NOS set of GP4 tubular rims yesterday, and I have begun the search process as well.

My eyes are open for a set of Campy 10 speed hubs and Centaur quality may work just fine.

The only problem I have is my new found frugality!

Word. A few months ago, I got very lucky and scored a wheelset w/Record hubs and CXP33 rims on eBay for under $200, shipped. Granted, the rear skewer was not included, but it's still a helluva deal.

And I'm with you, Stan - I'd much rather have silver than black hubs. I do have one Centaur in that darkish grey they ran a few years back, but I bought it because either Nashbar or Performance was blowing 'em out at some ridiculous price

Yikes! $500 a pair!?!

I'm glad I grabbed a used rear 32H record 10-speed wheel off CL for $50 back a few years. I also jumped on the Nashbar closeout as bikingshearer did, and managed to get a front 36H Record hub and a pair of gray 36H Centaur hubs. I recall the pair didn't even break $100. I haven't seen such deals on Nashbar since.

$300 rear
$200 front

seems like the normal price for NOS silver record hubs these days

When looking at new campy hubs, does anyone else consider third party products?
Campagnolo hubs aren't particularly light and now that everyone is using replacable cartridge bearings I find it hard to justify the cost of campy hubs.
