Garmin with Linux ubuntu?

Has anyone come up with a way to make garmin software play nice with Linux? Just got an edge 130 and would like to be able to download and upload files.

I've been able to transfer files from a Garmin 800 through the Ubuntu file browser (whatever the default is), and upload/download files using a browser. I don't expect using Garmin Connect would work, because you'd have to start it through wine every time you hooked up your device.

yes, can you just treat it like a flash drive, plugged in USB?

That's how my old 705 works on Windows. I just copy .tcx routes to it's folder, and copy ride recording files off the drive.

Garmin software? Are you talking about apps and programs that Garmin provides like BaseCamp or Garmin Express? Or you just want to access the files on the device to get your data or load a course? If the latter... with a few exceptions they all connect as storage or portable devices so your file browser should be able to grab the files you want or load them. Typically activities (the log of your ride) are found in the /garmin/activity some devices have it as /garmin/activities

To load a course, copy a .gpx, .tcx or .fit to the /garmin/newfiles folder. However some devices can't handle all of those formats for importing and the file has to be a properly formatted course file. Just because it has .gpx .tcx or .fit at the end does not mean it is a course file.

They auto-mount just like any other flash drive. In fact, that's how I deal with them on my windows computer too. Garmin isn't exactly known for great software.
