It's more that I like to plan ahead, and also I really want to make my go/no-go decision, and if it was yes, book stuff and then use it as motivation for not losing fitness over the winter in New England, which is always a bit of a challenge for me. I think you'll be fine waiting.

(Also, I can surf hotels and post to BikeForums during my work coffee breaks that are much too short to, say, head out for a training ride on. So I overthink things.)

There is someone replacing Klaus at Des Peres. One of the mailing lists mentioned TravelHaus, and a guy named Mike, who will also be offering the drop bag service that Des Peres did. I assume we'll hear more on that closer to the event.

I'm hearing that everything is booked solid now within a 15 km radius of the new start location.

But perhaps that's just a rumour.

Big ouch if that rumour is true... but on the other hand, not entirely expected, I'm getting the impression that there are more and more people interested in PBP 2019.

That ... and apparently there aren't as many accommodation choices right around the new start/finish area as there were around the previous start/finish area.

SQY is within 15 km of the start, does that mean it is all booked? I have heard of people staying in Paris and riding out to the start. Doesn't seem like a horrible idea.

Isn't Saint Quentin en Yvelines about 30 km from La Bergerie nationale à Rambouillet?

To quote:

I’ve got an AirBnB in Versailles. It’s right by the train station so it’s a quick trip to the start with no transfers.

That's a good idea ... looks like it's 18 minutes by train between Versailles and Rambouillet.

There's also a train every half hour from Paris Montparnasse.
