I've spent a little too much time looking at this...and everything looks legit to me. There's another camera angle from one of the downed bikes where you can see him lift the bike with his left hand under the saddle and spin the wheel to get the chain back on.
When the rear of Tom's bike comes into view in the YouTube clip, it's directly facing camera so you can't tell if the wheel is spinning or not...but his hand is in the same place as in the other clip...holding the bike off the ground with the saddle. Only after he swings the bike around can you see the wheel spinning.
Great fodder for the conspiracy folks but I don't see an issue.

ya know wat? I think we could use the annual motorbike/team car impeding/crashing out rider(s) right about now. not rooting for serious injuries or anything like that but this tour has been a snoozefest. *yawn*

Today's stage will be VERY tough, I know the area well. Yes, one climb (Plateau des Glieres - 6 kms, averaging 11% with sections of 27%), the final 2 kms (mile and a quarter) of which is an unmetalled section and one climb is tougher than Alpe d'Huez - that's the Col de Romme.

I respectfully disagree. The first week is typically my least favorite, but this year we've had the TTT (which I love), one hilly stage that added some excitement, one stage in which the final kilometer had to be climbed twice, and the stage 9 cobble's which adds excitement to a normally flat, boring stage. Now on to the stages that will determine the winner. I think/hope it is going to be a great race.

and glad to see alaphilippe finally get a well-deserved w. seemed like the classics-style stages of 5 and 6 suited him better (and he did well there).

Compared to Sunday, this was a snooze fest. I actually took a mid morning nap for an hour. When I woke up all the time gaps were still the same. I thought I had paused the recording. LOL.
I'm curious about the statement that was put out that Porte didn't actually break anything. That seems to have been brushed aside. It was talked about on Lance's podcast but no mention of it anywhere else.

So I would have looked pretty smart yesterday if I threw out Ahlaphilppe's name like I sort of almost did when Mr. Booga and I were waxing lyrically about our aged Spaniard's chances. Story of my life. Instead, I opted to pump up Warren Barguil who gave me a glimmer of hope then slammed that door shut. As is my m.o.
For tomorrow's short sharp shoot out (but not as pointy as #17 ), I got nothin'. At least until my revisionism later in the day.
Well, almost nothin'. T'm sort of thinking G winds up in yellow unless something sordid happens amongst the team (please let it not be a Froome mechanical after all the others have been shed, putting G on the horns of a dilemna). Sticking my neck out a bit further, I think Adam pips Froome for a few seconds and the GC placing, and Mr. Bojangles drifts off the back, perhaps riding in with Alejandro.
I'll throw out a very uncertain end-of-stage GC ranking of:
G
Yates
Landa
Froome
Nibali
Dumo
Roglic
with the caveat that Fuglsgang could be anywhere from #2 to #lots in that list. I'll put him there after Landa as a wild guess.

I think the GC contenders and strong teams only did what they needed to today to not lose time to each other. Sky was at the front on the climbs with Moviestar in tow, but with the exception of the Sky rider who did the majority of the pacing on the climbs, I don't think either team used too much energy. That was a good thing for Uran. Had either team really been pushing matters, his day would have gone from bad to horrible. Hopefully he'll be in better form tomorrow. I think/hope that the riders who have the legs will push harder the next two days and try and break things up.

How good will Van Avermaet ride the next few days
if BMC get behind him like the were gonna do for Porte.
He more than held his own in the mtns,
maybe with some help
he can keep the Yellow a few more days

stage once/11 is interesting. super short for a tdf mtn stage. a few riders i'd possibly pick will likely be shepherding the gc captain (atapuma, tejay, rolland, barguil, nieve, anyone from sky). that leaves (for
me) kangert, soler/amador, de gendt, navarro, and postberger. i'll take de gendt.

if the weather gets funky and/or bmc lay down the funky trax super dope, then gva stays in yellow till the south of gaul. not seeing it tho...
unless he's morphed into the next wiggins...or froome. there's still a little climb of that alpe thingy along with the madeline and the croix de fer.
that's a potential loss of 5-20 minutes even if you had merckx, coppi, bahamontes and hinault at your side.

Well I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see whether Alejandro hangs on and completely demolishes my prediction, or if the matches he's burning catch up to him and put him off the back before the end.

I wonder it Bernal was talking smack in Landa's ears as they rolled up on the finish.
