if I had normal sized feet I would wear 5/10s in a heart beat. Great for those bad weather poor condition hike a bikes that sometimes happen.
Otherwise, solid skate shoes work just fine (although with worse traction)

This is what works best for me on my "performance hybrid"/"flat bar" road bike. I had previously worn Five Ten Freeriders, purchased in March of 2013, but found them somewhat too heavy due to my problematical right leg and hamstring (long story).
So I too have found trail running shoes to work well with my grip pin pedals (Wellgo B184). Just recently I purchased, and have been using, Asics Gel-Scram 4 shoes and they are fantastic. Superb grip that even allows for pulling back/up on the pedals. Best I've had that work well for me.

Well, although I had been quite happy with the Asics Gel-Scram 4 shoes, I thought I should look in to specifically designed biking shoes, especially for cold weather riding. Long story short, after much research I ended up purchasing Bontrager Flatline shoes. They are incredible! Their grip of pinned pedals is just a shade less than my old Freeriders, but with better feel of the pedals along with being much lighter.
I've had them now for little over a month, and could not be happier. I highly recommend them. please note I have no connection to Trek/Bontrager.

ok,,,,,, there's Sketchers outlet store about a mile from me , I'll ride overthere and check out these Vigor2.0's sounds like just what I need,,,,,

I use mountain bike shoes with egg beaters when out play riding.
For bikepacking and long distance riding, I run WellGo MG-5 pedals with Adidas AX2 Mid height GoreTex hiking boots. They are light and stick tot he pedals well. The original reason was for riding the Tour divide route. There are sections where it is nice to get off and HAB for a bit and good shoes are a must.

I like MTB shoes w/o cleats. but I do like mini aka 1/2 clips. quick in & out, ya know? in cold weather I where larger, roomier waterproof hikers so I can fit warmer sock solutions, or during full-on winter, I use winter boots
only problem I have now is, last year got into cleated pedals etc on my road bike, so these shoes are set up w cleats & shims. so I might be shopping for another pair of MTB shoes I can use straight from the box. always shopping for clearances ...!
