Need some help identifying a Ciocc
A lucky Craigslist find brought this to my home yesterday.
It is obviously a repaint and a decal on the chainstay says D&D Cycles which I found is a shop in the Bay Area that also does some painting for Rivendell and Richey.
My question is which model and what approximate year. Also would like to know the tubing type. The only stamped number on the frame is a 49 on the bottom bracket which is the frame size. One source I found said that Ciocc didn’t put serial numbers on heir bikes. The following photos will hopefully help in the identification process.

The color is fabulous. Unfortunately you may never know the model. Does the steerer have those spiral reinforcements at the bottom? If you can find them in the bottom of seat and down tubes it might indicate a SLX tubed frame. That fork crown makes me think '85 or '86ish

That brake bridge makes me think it is 90s. most of the 80's, i think the bridge looked like the pic i attached, and for about half of the 80's the Ten Speed Drive logo was embossed on the top of it..

I agree that the brake bridge looks more modern, but the rest of the bike screams 80s to me. All of the 90s Ciöcc models that I have seen have no panto on the seatstays and the panto on the fork crown is different. And FWIW the Ciöcc that I purchased new in 1992 had the same brake bridge as yours. It's possible that it was repaired at some point and the different bridge was used as a replacement.....or maybe that's what they had laying around in the shop at the time.

Question to the OP... Does the brake bridge have the man on a bike symbol of Ten Speed Drive on one side of the bridge like this one? it is hard to see, seems like the purple paint is a little thick. that will date the frame to mid to late-mid 80's (i think). this is a Guerciotti i found on the interwebs... purports to be a 1983.

nice! I had a 1981 (or so) Mockba 80 that i bought as a frame and built up record/super record back in the day. it was the same or a similar color. no chrome, which was more to my taste BITD.

That is a pretty paint job.
What are your build plans for it? Personally, I would get a set of Ciocc decals for it when you find out the year. This bike should be a real standout when done. Good luck.

I’ll answer a couple of questions posed in earlier posts. @bianchigirl, no riflings in either fork steerer or seat tube. @mgopack42, There is no Ten speed Drive logo on brake bridge. It is a repaint so I don’t know if frame changes were made prior to repaint. @Giacomo, the bike is a 49 cm and way too small for me or friends or family. I will be putting it up for sale in C&V sales to sell outright or possibly trade for an Ultegra with brifters groupset. I think the bike would look great with white decals, seat and bar wrap with silver drivetrain.
Just a couple of more tidbits of info about the frame: The rear spacing is 128. The seat tube is either 27.0 or 27.2 depending on which direction I measure.

TSD dropped Ciocc in the late 1980s. The brand was picked up by Veltec-Boyer for a few years before moving to Excel. I'm assuming late 1980s to very early 1990s based on the dropout spacing. Circa 1988, Ciocc did offer a mid-range Columbo model with Falck double butted tubing. This could explain the post size plus lack of helical reinforcements. I don't recall it having the brazed-on front derailleur hanger but it may have been added prior to the repaint.

one other metric that may give a hint to tubing is that it weighs 6 lbs 11 oz as pictured with headset and bottom bracket. The headset is Mirage and the bb is Centaur. As previously mentioned, the frame is 49 cm.

Excel did have model names for their Ciocc frames. The advertisements they placed in the bicycle magazines often referred to only the brand and tubeset, as the tubeset meant more to prospective buyers than a model name. However, I've got Excel price lists showing the SL model as the Astore in 1990 and the Racing Team in 1991.

I have a similar brake bridge as shown by mgopack42
, without the panto, also same fork crown and panto "Ciocc" on the seat stays. I bought mine from a LBS in Germany and no model name or serial numbers, 1984.. It has Aelle Tubing. Came equipped with Shimano 600 components. KB

Aelle tubing might be a possibility given the no-rifling steerer and smaller-than-27.2 seatpost, but i would think more likely a 26.8 than 27.0, plus the lack of chrome and minimal pantos/pirecing. Plus I wonder if there were full Falck frames being made in that era...maybe so but Aelle would have been more common, or by then they may have dropped calling it "Falck" and started using "Mannesmann". T-Mar will know better than I.

One other thing I didn’t point out but is somewhat visible in a picture is that the dropouts are not stamped with a mfg name. Possibly this points to a lower end frame ( but it’s still a Ciocc!).
