Where Did You Ride or Walk Today?

This morning at dawn I rode through an abandoned golf course. There was a thin layer of fog about 4 feet above the ground. So my head was floating above the fog, while my bike and lower body were beneath it. With the mist and the red colors of sunrise, it looked like I was riding through flames and smoke.

Friday evening, Rowan and I walked 2.4 km ... 1.2 km up the hill behind our new place, and back. It was an exploratory walk to see what we could see ...
Taken from a little less than halfway up the hill ...
From up near the top of the hill ...

Monday – 1 km (to and from the bus) + 0.8 km (shopping) = 1.8 km
Tuesday – 0.5 km (to the bus) + 1.4 km (shopping) = 1.9 km
Wednesday – 1 km (to and from the bus) + 1.6 km (picking up symphony tickets) = 2.6 km
Subtotal: 6.3 km walking for the week so far. I'm kind of easing back into it again after struggling with jet lag/altitude sickness/lack of sleep.

Thursday - 0.5 km (to the bus) + 1.5 km (looking for shoes) + 4.75 km on the treadmill at the gym = 6.75 km
Friday - 1 km (to and from the bus) + 1 km (shopping) + 2.4 km (exploring our new neighbourhood) = 4.4 km
Total walking for the week: 17.45 km ... out of which only 4.75 km was inside on the treadmill. The rest was outside going places.
On the weekend we cycled recreationally ... a total of 102.96 km. But we drove to our start locations both days.
And this week ...
Monday - 1 km (to and from the bus) + 1.6 km (shopping) + 1.5 km (exploring our new neighbourhood ... and checking the grades of the hills around us. We live on a 14% grade but there's a hill behind us that tops out at 18%. Rowan is talking about doing hill repeats up there.

Got dropped off at the Domino's Pizza and walked from there to City Hall (water bill) to a small copy shop (had a card laminated) to home. Then made 2 trips to the store and back. Checked my standing on the '50k in October' Endomondo challenge and decided to go for another stroll that ended up being just over a mile and let me improve my rank by almost 100 spots . Total of 5.37 miles logged.
Stayed home yesterday due to the weather- I don't like cold and wet unless it comes in the form of a beverage or a friendly dog's nose.

From a highway service drive I saw an ambulance pass highway traffic on the right shoulder. Then it crossed the lanes to the crash on the left shoulder.

Wednesday -- to the bus + a visit to the allergist at lunch - 2.3 km
Thursday -- to the bus + a return to the allergist + some shopping at lunch + a walk to the concert hall to attend the symphony in the evening = 2.85 km
Friday -- to the bus + shopping at lunch = 2.3 km
Plus, of course, we also got some cycling in ... 50 min spinning class on Tuesday, a quick dash up the cycleway and back for a total of about 25 km on Wednesday, a 100.22 km ride through the countryside on Saturday, and a workout at the gym including 20 min on the spin bike on Sunday. But we drove to those venues.

And, of course, we did a lot of walking there. Everything is so close that you can park the vehicle and just walk. I really like small rural towns for that.
I'll have to add it all up, but I do know that I did a lot of walking on Friday in particular. I walked from the cabin where we were staying to the office where I used to work to visit friends, then to the storage unit where our stuff was stored, then to the main street of town to stop in at one of the bakeries for breakfast, then up and down the main street getting ourselves ready for the big move, then around and around the vicinity of the storage unit while the move was taking place, and over to the agency who run the storage unit and back to the unit and back to the agency again and back to the unit .........

I've been walking every day this week ... to and from the bus before and after work + at lunch.
Then this evening, Rowan and I went out for a short 10.6 km bicycle ride from home ... taking in a local beach and stopping by the grocery store to pick something up.
Hilly route and a bit breezy. Nice to have daylight till about 8 pm.

Lots of walking today ... to the bus, from the bus to the allergist, from the allergist to work ... all over the place at lunch taking photos (I'll post some later) ... and to the bus and to home after work.
Plus the usual walking during the rest of the week.

Though I walked this past week, I didn't log the mileage, which really hurt my standing in the various challenges on Endomondo. I decided to check out what new challenges there were for November... and I'm thinking I'll no longer be participating in them.
There is a 'most calories burned- all sports (except step counting) were the winner gets $1000 off the price of a cargo bike. The challenge started at 7:00 pm on 10/31/14 and the current leader has 'logged' 86737 kcal

I need to walk downtown to the post office. I had something else I wanted to do downtown but can't remember what it was, so I'm postponing until I remember.

Last time I bothered to look, there was enough outrage/crying "foul" that I'm sure that endomondo will be looking into it... but I really don't care anymore. I've made the switch full-time to using Sports Tracker- uses less memory, easier for me to read, no third party ads in the free version .

I got about half way through my 5 mile run yesterday before my left calf cramped up again, forcing me to limp back to the car. I'm going to see my massage therapist next week, because there's some thing wrong. I had planned to bicycle commute today but changed my mind. I don't use my calves as much biking as I do running or walking, but I still use them and it's sore. I hoped walking would loosen it up but it gets worse.

Saturday -- 41.38 km ride from home past a nearby beach and to another nearby beach. Tasmania has a lot of beaches.
It was a good ride ... generally scenic with a bit of climbing, but not too much. The traffic in a few places was a bit busy and we may have to explore some alternative routes. And shortly after we started back, it began to rain lightly. However, the temperature was still warm enough I just wore my waterproof vest.
And then, a little later, we walked down to the local grocery store to pick up a few things ... that was approx. a 600 metre round trip walk. Our local grocery store is not far away.

My usual walk from the QT to home today. Wife offered to take me back home because she forgot her mp3 player and was doubling back for it. I declined because I need the exercise and nearly got clobbered by a Kenworth with a flatbed trailer.
I was in the crosswalk and had the light. The truck did not have his signal on that I could see, but he proceeded to make a right turn across my path (we started out facing each other on opposite sides). I was already across one lane of traffic before he even entered the intersection and I had to pull up short in the left turn lane to avoid being hit.

Last week's walks were all short ... to and from the bus each day + maybe 1 km at lunch = 2 km/day * 5 days = 10 km. Kind of a rest week, although there was lots of unpacking going on.
This week I've been back to walking slightly longer distances again.
Monday included a walk up to a hardware store = 2.6 km
Tuesday included a walk to the fruit and veg market = 2 km
Wednesday included a walk to a large stationery store = 2.5 km (+ long walk at gym)
