Hello everyone,


First post, so hope im at the right place. I have a Super Le Man (1981) with a Sakae/Ringyo sc 1.37 x 24t bottom bracket. It needs service/replacement. So im looking to get help on tools needed for pulling the BB out. I only have an universal crankpuller. Link to images are most appreciated.

The universal crank puller should work. It's mainly French Stronglight and TA cranks that need special tools. Just make sure the treads are in good shape and you screw the puller all the way in to grab the maximum threads.

You need a fixed cup tool and a spanner for the adjustment, like this tool from Park

Here's the problem, you need a way to lock that fixed cup tool down so it doesn't slip. A tool like this will do the trick:

It's a left handed thread by the way.

Frankly you may want to have a bike shop do this since this is a one time job. You are likely to want to replace with with a shimano cartridge bottom bracket. They're great and inexpensive and require a different tool to install and remove.

The point is you may never need the tools for your fixed cup again unless you find a vintage bottom bracket replacement.

If you have access to a vice, you can clamp the fixed cup into the vice and turn the bike to loosen it. That's a great way to do it.

Tools tend to pay for themselves on the second or third job. For a truly one time job, a good LBS should be able to help.
