chain drop on my 1X7
I converted the old steel steed to a 1x7 and have found it a joy to ride, well until yesterday. I entered a local race and lost the chain about 5 times. Not sure whats up? is it a chain length issue? or the angle to the dangle? Sure I put on front der as a guide any advice. I do like it simplicity of the single front and will at some point go to a SS

Shorten chain as much as possible.
Run an un-ramped SS or DH specific chain ring, if not already.
Those are the cheap ways, and thee easiest. On a hardtail, yes? If you've not done those things already, do them before messing with the rest.
Bash ring or no? Cheapest "guide" setup is a bash ring combined with a Jump Stop. Cheap, quick, easy. I'd suggest this at a minimum. I've ridden burly hardtails on ugly trails for a long time, and this setup has worked very well.

If you want more than that, a top-only guide I've found works very well on hardtails. MRP, E.13 are your best bets.

You did put the derailleur on the front?
That should stop it from dropping, chain might be too long, is the chainring you have ramped or SS.
Im also running a 1x7, I picked up a problem solvers chain guide, it works ok, Paul makes one, very expensive though.
