Didn't realize you had to drive 50 miles on a rutted mountain road and fend off Black Friday crowds just to buy a tube, but whatever. I'm sure Amazon values your loyalty.

My local bike shops are a 50 mile round trip on a combination of interstate and 2 lane roads with stop signs and stop lights to get there.

I run tubeless on my bikes, but the spare tubes that I do carry in case I get a flat I purchase on ebay. About half the price of the LBS and free shipping.

Here's where I purchase my road tubes. $5.79 and free shipping. Can't beat that with a stick!!

Bike shops can order you tubes in bulk, sans packaging, for even less than you're paying on eBay, but whatever. You do you. The point remains that online buying is causing bike shops to close, and you might one day wish you had one, as your earlier anecdote illustrates. I'm done here.

Maybe the bike companies bike shops should get on board with selling their merchandise online?

What really sucks is that some of the major bike companies don't let them sell their bikes online. That's a business killer right there and bike shop closure waiting to happen. Why in this day and age can you not buy a Giant, Cannondale, Trek or Specialized bike online? Trek lets you purchase the bike online but it has to be picked up at the Trek store.

While I do own a Giant, Specialized, Cannondale and Niner (purchased online) bike...my next bike purchase will be company direct.
