Recumbent What IS that thing?! Recumbents may be odd looking, but they have many advantages over a "wedgie" bicycle. Discuss the in's and out's recumbent lifestyle in the recumbent forum.

Seriously? The seat of my highracer is 20" off the ground. I doubt the top of my head even reaches to where my behind on the seat of a DF is perched 32" off the ground.

I have a Bacchetta. Seat height more like 30". My head height is about the same as a 'normal' cyclist on the drops (I'm over 6' 2").

I assume you have something like a M5?

I had a dual 26" bike like that, a ZOX26:

Here's my current ride, that big cargo box helps visibility greatly:

How? I've actually talked to a few. In their mind, the law reads, "cyclists may share the lane with a car," and that (to them) means that the car shouldn't have to divert and if the car bounces the cyclist off the road, it's the cyclist's fault for taking up too much of the lane.

If, as you assert, close passes are because they aren't looking, then you are agreeing that height/size has no bearing. If they're not looking, they're not looking.

My statement was an OBSERVATION recorded on video. Wow, you're trolling.

Your experience is universal and immutable? Who's trolling now?

You asked, I answered. Obviously you have different drivers than I do. As I wrote, if they aren't looking, they won't see you no matter what. OTOH, if they're aiming for you, I would think that being small and theoretically invisible would be an advantage. So I guess you're agreeing with me.

Any driver that claims they cant see a 3 foot wide trike on the road should immediately have his or her license pulled.

Two days ago while riding on a two lane without a shoulder, I was buzzed by a Kenworth hauling construction equipment. On coming traffic was light, traffic from the rear was light. The trucker could have waited a few seconds, however that would have meant a down shift and braking. Not sure if he saw me too late or if he just had an attitude, but there was only 12 inches between him and me. Hauling a flat bed with a front loader on it made for a long and scary encounter. Fortunately on the upright bike I was able to hold my line after being buffeted by the Kenworth and waiting for the flat bed to roll by. Not sure that I would have been able to do that on a bent.
Seriously that may have sealed the deal with me. Still interested in a bent, but a cheapie for the bike paths may be the only way I go, but not touring.
