Visiting St Joseph, MI - any recommended routes, trails, roads?

Hi all. I will be visiting some family in West Michigan and will be bringing the bike, hoping to get a nice ride in. Anyone here familiar with the town? I am hoping to find a decent route or trail that's safe/recommended to ride.

thanks!

Not sure how far you want to ride, but you can ride up the Blue Star to South Haven, then head in the direction of Kalamazoo on the Kal-Haven trail. During the summer, the Blue Star is a popular training route for the triathlon types. It has wide shoulders and (because of the tri geeks) drivers are used to seeing bikes. Plus, there's DiMaggio's Pizza in Hagar Shore when you need refueling.

Forgot to mention... Unless you're a vegetarian, you want the sausage pizza. Trust me.

I did like the Kal-Haven, the more I think about it, you may want to research something closer to St. Joe. The South Haven terminus is about 25 miles from St. Joe. The trail between South Haven and Kalamazoo is 30+ miles. Unless you're planning both ways on the trail, it's about an hour's drive from St. Joe to Kalamazoo to drop you off or pick you up.

Road, mountain, MUP, Gravel? Distance you want to ride, and how far are you willing to drive to get there?

Anytime I'm traveling and looking for "what rides are available locally?" I go to the Ride with GPS site and search within an X mile radius of, in this case, St Joe.. and see what's out there.

I only wish they had a map-view of rides in whatever area (all ride-routes on one map of an specific area..like TrailLink.com does with rail-trails).

There is one on the MDNR website.
It's broken up by region.

Oh yeah.. another vote for DiMaggio's Pizza.
(don't bother to order extra cheese)
I'll go there over Geno's East in South Haven.
But there is a Giordanno's in Holland now, and a butt-ton of bike paths all over town and out into the countryside.

If you're in St Joe you're also not far from the home of Three Oaks, the home of the famous Apple Cider Century.

I've seen(have) those maps and they're very nice, but they detail more state trails & the like..as I remember. I was referring more to personal routes on RWGPS. The routes are there, but you see them one at a time in their search listing.

The same people that bring you the Apple Cider Century have also published bicycle ride maps for Berrien County. They are on paved roads. Here is the link. I have bicycled a lot in southern Berrien County. Very few cars on those rural roads. And, if you going now, you should see lots of fruit blossoms. Good luck.

My wife was up there last week and said they are working on the DiMaggio's building. Hopefully it won't be long before they are back serving pizza.
