LMAO. Fire this one up next time you need a new one:

An American, a Scot and a Canadian were in a terrible car accident. They were all brought to the same emergency room, but all three of them died before they arrived. Just as they were about to put the toe tag on the American, he stirred and opened his eyes. Astonished, the doctors and nurses present asked him what happened.

"Well," said the American, "I remember the crash, and then there was a beautiful light, and then the Canadian and the Scot and I were standing at the gates of heaven. St.Peter approached us and said that we were all too young to die, and said that for a donation of $50, we could return to earth. So of course I pulled out my wallet and gave him the $50, and the next thing I knew I was back here."

"That's amazing!" said the one of the doctors, "But what happened to the other two?"

"Last I saw them," replied the American, "the Scot was haggling over the price and the Canadian was waiting for the government to pay his."

that rain finally showed up early this morning, not much from what I can gather riding the MTB to work. Trails were almost hero dirt today with a few puddles here n there.

I canceled on a beach ride with Russell today because of a 10% chance of rain

Not to mention rainy Breathless Agony.

The rain hit Lake Forest about 10:45 last night, and it POURED for a good hour and 15 minutes. I reckon we got more rain at my house last night than all of the last rain season. Radar showed a small localized cell maybe a couple miles in diameter.

The good news is I took a chance and got my 7x hill repeats on Portola Parkway ride done and was home by 7:40. Before dark when I was at the top of the hill each time I could see some virga dropping from clouds in the distance over the ocean, and my last time up it looked like it might have been raining in Laguna Beach (hard to tell for sure in the dark twilight). After the hill repeats I rode hard to get home ASAP.

All I know is it better not rain between the 21st and the 24th or I may take up temporary residence in SLO until it clears up

We can just ride around pismo beach for 3 days and then take the train back...

"Sure, honey, the ride was great! What do you mean my phone was in Pismo the whole time, the rain must have messed up the GPS. No, don't look at my strava"

It didn't even rain enough overnight to get the ground wet under the trees. It rained just enough to wash a lot of debris out onto the roads. But the recorded high was 78º, and exactly one week ago today it peaked at 104º. So I'll take it gladly.

i am glad there was traction for you to steer around that awfulness. It looks like it was similar but slightly different to one of the last times I got caught in the tain

Today, however, there was less (as in no) hail, lightning, 6” deep streams of water acrosss the road or any of the other fun associated with that picture.

I am, however, testing my new bike fit. Bars down 5mm (the periscope is even huger, @DrIsotope), saddle up about 1.5cm, Fizik Aliante replaced with Specialized Power, insoles and front foot inserts, new cleat positions. But my bars were the right width and the stem was right

not sure about the insoles yet. A few more rides as I have some fun hotspots now. I only did South 14, too.

When traversing deep waters, periscope is acceptable.

I have a weird body, so every bike I have has the stem all the way at the top of an uncut steerer, and still ends up with 4-5" of saddle-to-bar drop.

i have short stubby legs and long arms, so I end up with flipped nearly slammed stem so I’m not totally upright. 7’ wingspan, ahoy.

Finally got off my butt and got the old Bianchi put together for trainer duty. It's got 11 speed 105 on there now and except for taping the bars, it's road ready.

I have to go compare to my ultegra bike but the front derailleur is nearly rubbing on the rear tire when on the large chainring. That can't be right - I've never even THOUGHT about that before. I don't use a wheel on the trainer, so no big deal except that it's bugging me:

That’s weird, never would have occurred to me either. I went out and looked at my wife’s bike which has 105 11 speed. I can see how this might happen if the frame has short chainstays. Might have to look at an Ultegra derailleur if you want to put that bike on the road. I don’t have a 6800 to compare but my 8000 would not interfere with a tire.

6800 looked pretty good too. the 5800 FD is just really boxy. Very strange.

In other news, I put 28mm Micheline Krylion endurance tires on my roubaix today and was EXTREMELY disappointed to see that they actually measured out at 27.8mm. My flipping 25mm tires are that "wide" and cost less to boot. Bah.

Get wider wheels. All those Shimano wheels are so cheap now because no one wants to run 15mm internal. The Gavias ran 24mm wide on Ultegras, and mount just over 27mm wide on my Kinlins.

is the difference in spec from Braze on clamp to regular bolted on Front D. Or just take a dremel to it and call it a 1 banana job

I put 'em on my old powertap wheels, which are slightly wider than old fashioned and slightly narrow than new fangled. The wheels have 32 spokes though, which makes me feel like I"m less likely to have ride-ending wheel problems when I ride home from SLO in 2 weeks.

Went for the maiden run tonight. Everything worked great. Had to raise the saddle about 2 inches and I'm not a fan of the skinny handlebars, but that's EASILY remedied on an indoor bike. Moar towels please! Need to tweak the RD some, it's a little noisy but hey - STEEL IS REAL! And #NeedMoreFans
