Anyone else using Wahoo Kickr in cold season? Having an issue

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone else using Wahoo Kickr in cold season? Having an issue

Was curious if anyone else was having an issue with their Wahoo Kickr. The issue seems to be with the cassette. First the cassette on the Kickr is extremely noisy/grinding basically all the time. Secondly it refuses to shift to the smallest cog 90% of the time which prevents me from gaining a lot of speed on downhill runs in zwift. Second, I can shift to the small ring anytime, but going back to the big ring? That requires me to be in the middle 3 cogs of the cassette on my Shimano 105 drivetrain. Otherwise? No chance to go back to the big ring. This is extremely annoying and makes for really awkward changes when you have to constantly adjust your cassette just to move the chainring.

I'm guessing it has to do with he cassette being a "universal" type cassette? Maybe I should swap it for a 105 cassette? It's absurdly annoying.

Any ideas?

The cassette that came with my Kickr has never meshed properly with any of my bikes no matter how much adjusting I do. I haven't started using it yet this winter but I'm going to install a cassette from a set of wheels that I know meshes ok and see if that helps.

How would the cassette prevent you from shifting from the small chain ring to the big chain ring? I think your issues lie elsewhere.

I don’t own one, but something to look at is if the right spacers were used, or to ensure a spacer wasn’t used if your not supposed to have one. I assume everything on the bike is indexed correctly.

Mine would have some hesitation in the 13-11 cogs, I think. I swapped the one that came with the unit for a wider range cassette sometime last winter. The hesitation is gone. Always assumed it was something wasn’t adjusted right on the bike.

In my case, I know that to be true. The only difference would be wear on my chain so I tried a new chain and still had some slight grinding in a few cogs even after minor adjusting. This year, I'm just going pull the Wahoo cassette and use my own. I'll bet that fixes everything.

I thought the same thing but swapped my wheel back on and went around the block and had absolutely no issues with the chain ring or cassette. Back on the kicker? exact same thing as before. I've now tested it a full 3 times. I believe it has something to do with the spacing on that rear cassette.
