It is all I wear. I think they are owned by Shimano. It isn't junk, but reasonable quality at a decent price point. I usually buy stuff when it is discounted.

Sure, Pearl Izumi makes good midrange, midprice stuff and a great value. I have several PI items, shorts, liners, baggies, arm warmers, windbreaker, and they're all good.

PI seems ok for some stuff. The chamois they use doesn't suit me though - ymmv. Some of their graphic design choices can be suspect.
Try Sierra (the TJ Maxx of outdoor gear) which seems to be a primary dumping ground for PI stuff.

PI Attack shorts were my go to shorts. I loved everything about them and wore them for about 7 years. For some unknown reason, PI decided to change the padding in the shorts from the blue (with vent channels) to a red pad with no vent channels and made of a different material. I bought a pair of those thinking that the padding may be better but was I ever wrong. If PI ever goes back to the old style blue, vented padding, I will forever be grateful.

+1 The green chamois below is what I got in recent PI "PRO" bibs (Escape). Not comfortable, vs. random other example (red) with channeling:

PI gear is decent and reasonable. Unfortunately, it never really fit me well. And, of course, what does fit me perfectly is Assos. Which is why, even though I only buy sale items, I am poor. Oh well.

If PI would stop changing the chamois design annually, that would be great. I think I have 7 pairs of PI bibs of varying "levels," and at least 4 different chamois. Some channeled, some flat, some flat but with a weird texture, etc.

I don't think I've ever bought a pair that wasn't on clearance.

In Japanese, izumi means spring or fountain. According to them, the literal translation is "fountain of pearls."

Which seems appropriately Japanese.

I have a few pairs with an orange pad. Wish I could remember which model right now. I find the pad somewhat abrasive, especially when I am really sweaty. Recently bought a different model (lower end) with a different type of pad. It's more comfortable.

Most of my cycling wear is Pearl Izumi or Louis Garneau. We sold both brands in the shop I worked in decades ago, so I've just never deviated.

Some of my PI shorts have lasted 15+ years. All blue pad, though!

The question make little sense for being not sufficiently specific. Pearl Izumi has a stratified product line and makes gear in all price ranges. Their upper-end stuff is above excellent and probably best on the market. The most basic stuff is OK. The mid-range offerings are perfect as everyday gear.

So, just choose by style and by design. Some of their high-end bibs in some model years were too short for my taste.

Except anecdotally above, the PRO line's pad which I assume is somewhere on the higher end is not maybe as well considered as the lower level offerings for comfort.. which is indeed a bit backwards

Bought a pair, liked it, bought another pair, liked it too, bought a couple more pairs, thought it had barbed wire embedded in the sides of the chamois. If they're good this year, buy extras!

I bought PI shorts years ago that were very good, but more recently, the chamois pad they've changed to "pills" between the chamois and exterior fabric, creating little bumps that apply pressure to unwanted areas, after about 2 years of regular use.

Love my Pearl Izumi AmFib tights. They've held up great over multiple winters.

That was one of the issues I had with the red, unvented chamois in the last pair of Attack shorts I bought. The other, and most important, was the cut of the chamois is different than the blue and where it was sewn around the crotch, was chaffing the heck out of me. Never had that problem with the older Attack shorts or the Bellwether or LG shorts I have now. Of the two brands I'm now using, I like the LG's a bit better but really wish that PI would go back to the old style, blue vented chamois. They fit me so well and were so comfortable that I could ride all day without using any creams and not have any issues.

I too like PI....I buy their bib shorts and I find if you don't buy the bottom line level you will be happy, I like the 'pro" or "elite" label stuff best. Both are good value for clothing and fits me well as a bigger guy!
