And the point is? The bit isn’t particularly funny and without a reveal seems kind of cruel. Even with a reveal, it wouldn’t be all that funny. We aren’t laughing with the guy but at his ignorance.

I get Candid Camera but never really liked the premise. The copies of that program have never really improved it much. Leaving someone to look for a nonexistent item for 5 minutes without clueing them in on the joke is unnecessarily cruel. It’s not a “joke” at that point.

The other potential problem with Carbonaro's "joke" is the potential for fraud. He (or one of his imitators) could have easily charged his customer for completely bogus service and never let him in on the joke. Auto mechanics, appliance service people, etc. do it all the time.

The other potential problem with Carbonaro's "joke" is the potential for fraud. He (or one of his imitators) could have easily charged his customer for completely bogus service and never let him in on the joke. Auto mechanics, appliance service people, etc. do it all the time.

Well, this has been interesting. I posted this with the intent of giving everyone a chuckle. Never dreamed it would get some of these reactions.
I love a good sport, which this guy clearly was. They did not show the part where they reveal the gag, and I wish they had. As mentioned before, a release must be signed before a video like that can be made public, so we have to assume that the "victim" is on board with it. Watching him struggle between what he thinks or believes, and what his senses are clearly showing him makes the audience sympathize.
I'm not really a fan of videos like the booby trapped bike that invites would be thieves to hop aboard and pedal off, only to have the bike reach the end of a tether and throw the rider arse over apple cart, but I'm quite sure most of those are staged with stunt men.
I see a video like the one I posted and wonder, why didn't I think of that, but then again, I could never pull it off like this guy did.
