Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A word of warning on "just looking" a little early - you *will* come across a screaming bargain. You will feel absolutely certain that you won't come across a deal like this again, and certainly not when you're planning on buying in X months and, as such, you'd really be saving yourself money by shuffling finances around a little and buying now. Before you know it, oh, look at what followed me home.

Or maybe that's just me.

I thought the same thing. I mean, I knew that they were a brand with history, but I figured the name just got bought out because they didn't have a presence otherwise.

The bargains have already started...... but I haven’t even test ridden anything yet. And I have to be fitted, I do not want to be in the situation I am now especially if I am dropping 2 plus on a bike. But I know what you mean, that’s how I ended up with my CAAD 4. Thought it was a bargain....

I had an R2000, which suffered an untimely death. There isn't one thing wrong with your R1000 that some TLC can't fix.

No, but I was able to listen to a podcast comfortably while on the trainer. They beat my old hearing aids by a mile, smaller and more comfortable.

That's great. Everyone I know that needs and has hearing aids doesn't wear them.

The color is fine - hot, definitely.

Now, if the hoses/cables were completely internal in the cockpit, I'd think it a drool-worthy, thoroughly modern aero bike.

I think the bike design was Di2. The top two tier are red e tap, The rest on down are not. I was thinking the same thing as I was looking at the picture.

They probably were, well depending on when you started. Performance owed Fuji's parent company a lot of money so they decided to buy Performance.

The colours kinda meh, and the matte finish ain't doing it any good. The DA Gran Fondo from a couple years ago had that color and we always called 'em the ketchup bikes.

I loved the Transonics back then. I'd ride one pretty much every chance I got.

My first ‘real’ bike was a Fuji American in 1982. It cost $715 which was quite a bit back then, especially considering my first full Campy Italian bike was ~$900 a year later.

The one you defiled by attaching to the trainer?

Hmmmmm. I see that the Transonic 1.1 is available as a frameset for $2k. I wonder if that includes the integrated cockpit? If so, that could be a really interesting, high-value build.

No and quit bugging me about my Motta on the trainer. It's a great bike on there, rock solid like it was made for it.

I don't sweat a lot so it's safer on the trainer than the salted roads.

It is a sweet bike and should be ridden outside on sunny summer days.

My first full Campy bike was a 1983 Viner followed in 1985 by a full Super Record Gianni Motta but not the one on the trainer. I raced fancier bikes as a Cat.4 than as a Cat.2

This was my favorite Fuji. Wish I woulda kept it, even though it was a size too big for me.

I always thought the Fuji bikes were fine options, but they just had the department store Bike-Shaped-Object aura about them due to Performance Bikes and the like, as has been mentioned.

Me, I'm a full on Trek fanboi. Never thought I would be that guy, but here we are. I dig other brands, but if I was going to spend serious money again, I'd be looking at the Madone.
