Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yup.

Post 9/11, I was given very quick training by the Army and detailed part-time to the HHS secretary's office as an instant expert on countermeasures for chemical terrorism. I got side-tracked into working on hospital surge capacity for a while. We had that spreadsheet.

Incidentally, while we were supposed to be working on requirements for exotic mass casualty scenarios from DHS about chem warfare agents in transit hubs, dirty bombs, and massive releases of weaponized bugs in Manhattan, the thing all the real experts worried about was pandemic flu. People have been warning about pretty much this current scenario for years and years.

Did we determine if there's a cycling/walking exception to stay-at-home orders?

The way it's going, I'll probably be the last person here to get one, but it might happen.

I have been out every day and reporting it to my monitors. No objections so far.

Well. Next week in Neuro we’re going to emergencies only, skeleton crew. I’ll be in the office Mon-Wed, working the phones from home Thursday. My colleague will work Thurs-Sat, working the phones from home on Wednesday. On call other days as needed. Interns 3.5 days in the office, 1.5 days working the phones from home. Maybe the imaging techs stay at home and get called in as needed.

You can ride, they just say stay 6 feet from others. Personally I think it should be solo rides only, or riding with someone in your household. One of our local groups is splitting the group into packets of 10 or less to ride separate routes, telling people to stay 6 feet apart.

To me, this is not really what the “groups of 10” idea is about. It only takes contact with 1 person to catch this disease. Ten people should be for unavoidable situations like the grocery store. Not for fun events where congregating is optional.

No snow to overcome here, but we supported our local Mexican family restaurant. Take-out, natch.

I'll have a real one soon. What are your thoughts on two puppies or just one (8 weeks old.)

Generally speaking, just one. Better bond to their humans, and that translates into generally speaking a greater degree of comfortableness with the world of humans. Then get a second one a few years later. ❤️

What kind of pup?

I went to our local wine tasting room and bought a bottle today. They’re shut down for tastings but bottle sales are ok. Don’t know how they’ll make it through this COVID19 shutdown, but I’m doing my part. Figure I can buy a bottle per week and do my part.

Good to know.

full size dachshund. The short legs like a Corgi allows him to be safely harnessed into the dog trike. Named Nosmo King.
