When counting my cadence's. My right foot making a complete revolution is one count correct ?

Yes. That's it.
Typically, the bike computer with a separate cadence sensor will use a magnet that you attach to one crank arm. Same concept as what you've described.

When I was racing as a teenager I couldn't figure out why my coach kept saying the pulls I was taking at the front of the group were too short - I counted 100 pedal revolutions like he said, but somehow was only at the front for roughly half the time as everyone else.

Thank you to all....wow I was thinking I'm rocking it doing 110 .......only to find no, your doing 55......well no where to go but up. I will build......I have so much to learn. Grateful for this forum in which I can seek advice. Having fun at the start of a journey, and some good laughs along the way.

In collage I asked a question that was a bit "simple" or so people thought. My professor then said," there is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people!"
He got a huge laugh at my expense. He then said, you should never be afraid to ask any question!

I just recently started paying attention to cadence because I was curious how efficient (or inefficient) my riding style is and how that translates to energy use over the course of a long ride. I'm not as bad as I thought, but I definitely have plenty of room for improvement.

For a new rider 70-80 cadence is plenty fast and a good start.
