My flounce thread.

I thought this was the place for me but as it turns out, it's not.
I posted a thread mentioning guns and was warned that many here do not care for that kind of thing.
Not my forum and the way I see it, there's really no reason for me to be here if that's the way it's going to be.

Aw. Stay. This is a great place to discuss all things related to bicycling: commuting, repair, technical advances, which tire is best for training, classic and vintage rides, public advocacy.

If you're really into bike riding for fun, sport, or utility, we're your folks.

There are also other web forums available to you for your other hobby areas that don't necessarily overlap at all with bicycling. You'll find (in life) that there are some topic areas that have become highly politicized, so much so, that friendly discourse isn't possible any longer. No need for me to list those topics. We steer away from them here, unless you want to go to the subforum devoted to politics and religion, where most can be discussed.

Good luck.

Stick around. Although there are boundaries that we all must tolerate, we would welcome your contribution.

You think that was a tantrum? You didn't grow up in NJ.

Hmmm... Not sure about this one. If the OP is being censored because of a comment, it would be interesting to know the reason and relevance. Depending on where I ride, I've been in the habit of carrying a Ruger LCP for many years. Is that shocking? Is that offensive? Am I going to be "spoken to" for mentioning that? What boundaries have to be observed that don't cross over into nasty partisan politics? There could be a valid question related to cycling here too - if someone is an avid rider, worried about dangers both four legged and two, wondering about safe methods of carrying a defensive weapon on a bike, that's not out of line. Not to me at least. Obviously this isn't a gun forum and should not be - but on a bike, space is limited and bad or uninformed choices could have serious ramifications so a question pertaining specifically to what someone's opinion is on a safe carry method isn't a bad thing. If the OP was going off about some firearms adventure and just happened to be on a bike - well, it's not a gun forum.

Point being - if people are chased away because they crossed a line based purely on someone's "offensenitivity" about a particular subject, then there is a problem.

Or join a firearms forum? I am a concealed carry guy but I don't come here for info/discussion of firearms.

there are plenty of people on here that will take a discussion political given half a chance. That's why we don't allow talking about guns outside of PnR. Same thing for climate change, people take it political right away. These are just two examples on this forum of things we only allow to be discussed in the P&R forum. We have worked to make that forum less of a cesspool, with some success, but if you want to see why we don't allow politics outside of there I'm sure you will understand if you read some of the threads in that forum.

If you can't live by the rules it's best not to participate. Newbies trying to dictate the rules is probably not going to work out for them. The all-volunteer mod staff works pretty hard to keep this place welcoming to a large number of people. Some people just don't fit in. Sorry for the inconvenience.
